Took the starter to my local wizzard. Nameplate info was not legible. Alternator Yoda looked at it and indicated it’s 12V based on its gear action. He popped the solenoid cover open and amature housing. Corroded. It’s getting some luv and will be ready tomorrow noon.

I wrote it on Monday...

The starter does.` turn.....correct ?
...not a 24v problem..Would be the same with 12v.

@FJBen not really anything to update y’all on sadly.🤣 This past week I have had a couple STAAR (State of Texas Tests) tests and AP exams and I have finals coming up too. So school has been pretty crazy! Luckily next week is my last week of school so the summer of Landy is coming soon.👍

@FJBen -If ya board and wanna gander over let us know. We are around. PM me.

Some guys stopped by the museum today.......

I don’t know, I’m kind of sick and tired of seeing these same guys (and maybe an occasional gal) with another acquired cruiser on a trailer heading to some secret cave somewhere. Enough already!

:p😂

and on edit: I now see that that's a fixed top SWB 45, eh?

That’s awesome!!!

Been working in the barn this past week just trying to do some little things everyday and got enough stuff to put a decent update together. I took a break from the engine and cross member stuff for now and started work on the rear 70 series axle. I stripped all of it apart down to the housing and started cleaning and painting it. I got stuck for a couple days with a stubborn drum cover but eventually got it off. (After a couple hundred hits with the dead blow hammer 🥲) Starting to cleanup those components and hit them with self etching and paint.

Between taking apart the axle and what not I went back to the engine. Got the 12V starter rebuilt and put it in to see if we could get the engine to bump. Ran into some trouble getting it to fire though. We could here the relay clicking and we checked voltage coming to the connectors and everything seems to check out but once it’s all hooked up it doesn’t seem to get enough juice. Ended up taking it off a couple times and cleaning the contact point for the main power as well as the pigtail connectors. I even bench tested it and it works fine. After a couple more tries of wiggling wires we got it to engage for a couple seconds and the engine does turn so we’re good there. I’m guessing it’s just a loose ground somewhere.

Gonna finish cleaning up the dust shields and axle housing here shortly then move to cutting off the spring perches. My brother is doing a 70 series rear on his 40 at the moment so I have all the measurements for the new perches and what not. Finally picked up some metal as well for the cross member so that should be coming soon too.

Been doing a couple things in the barn these past couple weeks. Finished cleaning up the dust shields and hardware for the 70 series axle. I hit both with self etching and paint and set em aside for reassembly.

From there I moved on to the axle housing. I cut off both perches and ground the nubs down till it matched the axle. Then, I took the whole thing down to bare metal and hit it with just self etching. (So when I do my fitment I’m not worrying about messing up paint.) After watching my brother run into some problems with the placement of his perches I think I’m just going to do all my fitment and welding with the axle on the leaf springs. That way I know it’s perfect and there’s no way I can mess up super badly.
