I looked closer at the crankshaft and had two bearing caps that were very loose. There’s my knocking!

I had two bearing caps that were knocking like this. Looking closely at one of,them you can see the metal shard sticking out. I grabbed a picture of that metal shard after it fell out.

I pulled the bearing covers for the two rods that were knocking and there was no bearing left. It’s hard to tell how much wear this had on the camshaft. You can see the pictures. They didn’t feel like they had big grooves but were not as smooth as my cylinder walls are.

Looks like I’m headed for a rebuild of the bottom half now!

So do you have any idea like the garage said, did it go after you shut it off or before?
What was temp issue too?

What sort of temp elevation did you see? Sudden, slow, and you said it went back down after you sat it for a bit?

Slow rise when I heard the knocking. It got up almost to the top of the gauge when I pulled over the first time. What are you thinking?

For you? No idea... ;)

Just thinking about me. I’m still having a slightly high temp w/ some slow creeps up then down. Can’t quite tell if it’s w/ the fuel since I did the pickup. I don’t drive it enough on a regular basis to get a good read in it. Someone had a new used gauge for me, guess it might be time to buy it and check that off the list.
I do plan on pulling my oil pan soonish since I’ve got a spare and the necessary supplies.
I have no knock so I don’t really think I’m having any bottom end issue but I find it interesting to watch others going through them. No offense to you, sucks big time but you’ll be my new fav teacher.

Felicity if your removing your pan be sure to check the torque on all your cap bolts.

It’s time to catch the MUD world up on Old Bessie! Back at the end of May I had the unfortunate situation that I spun a bearing on my 2F. After a lot of conversations with you all on MUD and researching my options I decided to do a full rebuild.

About 500 miles before I spun the bearing I completely rebuilt the head. So talking with @BGarcia88FJ62 he came up with a great idea for me. He was nice enough to swap my block with spun bearing for a block that he had sitting in his basement.

So here’s the plan...

1. Completely rebuild the block that @BGarcia88FJ62 is giving me.
2. Pull the entire engine and transmission from my truck out.
3. Put the newly rebuilt head on my 2F on the newly rebuilt block. Give Ben my old block.
4. Rebuild the transmission
5. Replace the clutch and other accessories as needed

It’s by far the biggest project that I’ve done on the truck but things are progressing very nicely!

We can’t work on the rebuild every day because of course we have our day jobs and I have to take some time to put food on the table every once in a while! Here’s an 8 point I harvested earlier this fall.

Bet you never thought you’d be in this deep when you called me ages ago looking for advice eh Mike?

It’s time to get ready to pull the 2F out! A lot of prep work goes into getting this large hunk of metal out of the truck.
