Pigs Home!!!!

Thanks all, thanks Root for the pics and video!!!

yeah, she was towed to Coyote Cruisers in Ft. Collins, thanks John, and I went and picked her up. Set in a little more when I got to looking at her again.

As for getting into the back seat...i dunno...lol I just squeezed between the head rest and B-pillar...somehow in all my coats and such....I really don't remember which side I got out either...

Just hopped out and saw everyone thankfully!

As for what to do next...I don't know. I don't know if I'll build another pig or a 40 or buy my wife a newer cruiser and build the 80 with the intention of someday putting a 55 body on there(yeah that will take some serious work) Obviously I can scavenge a ton of parts for the next build.

Outside of just a chopped top trail rig, I don't think she's salvagable. Everyone sees the pics and goes...oh you can fix, or that it doesn't look that bad until you really start looking at how tweaked EVERYTHING is.

As you can see in the pics, she's listing Port pretty hard...she used to sit completely level, it's about 1" to 1.5" So something funky there. You can see the tailgate lines, on the drivers side the gap between the rear quarter and tailgate is about 1.5" and the passenger is snug. she definitely took a hit.

Insurance should be over in a day or so to have a look. Should be interesting.

I can not belive i am going to say this but.....I think I would just cannibalize her. Safety concerns with the frame time and money to make her work properly. Strip it get a different one.:crybaby:

What ever you decided to do let me know and I will help out all I can. Be it fixing it or stripping it. Let me know.

I really appreciate that! very cool...

in other news, the adjuster just stopped by, he's an offroader so that really helps. He said, that's really pushed hard. Every panel is bent and pushed over, tweaked, dented...

So by next week I'll prolly have a preliminary value and then get to start negotiating...yay....

Ben,

How did you get comprehesion on your 55? Did you have to get an appraisal prior? What company do you have? All I can get is liability because elwood is old and is a 4X4. Once again sorry to hear about your pig.

wow gorgeous truck really .sorry to see it roll. :( hopefully if you build it up again ( if you do) it would look good with a white exterior rollcage. :)

Ben,

If you do decide to fix her, I do have a good roof from the pillars up that I would donate to the cause of fixing your pig.

Chuck

That really sucks!
Looking at the pics its hard to fathom how you rolled, but having done something similar I can understand. I did the same thing in a toy pickup a few years back.
I was able to fix the truck and once done you could not tell what happened, soft roll. Good luck!

Thats gotta suck bad mate, but good to see you got out alright. Sad to see such a nice pig get screwed up like that but i guess it's i risk we all take, and unfortunately this happened.
i recall seeing photoshop chops of your 55, maybe thats a good excuse now to give that a go, as long as everything is structurally in good shape. but by the looks of the scenery an inclosed cabin would be preferable in snow.

 Dan.

yeah, it was butt cold! lol...

I don't think you could call this a "soft" roll....I mean it wasn't violent....not really even a true roll for that matter. The snow was very hard and crusty. Someplaces you could walk on it, others you fell through.

In this corner, (i feel like a boxing announcer :) ) there was hardpacked snow/ice. As i went through the slightly drifted snow, that was my traction....pulled me to the side...just like when you hit a puddle with one side of your vehicle and it pulls you.

Once that happenend she went into the deeper snow and the ass end started to come around...drifting style(pun intended) the weight transferred over to the passenger side...causing her to go more into the side of the road....

Well my friend Mr. Krusty Snow allowed the lighter passenger side of the vehicle to not but through as much snow, while the passenger side dug in deeper and POOF over she went.

The impact is almost all on the top/side of the roof, meaning she had some momentum and height for the first dive (the swedish judge gave a 9.9) which coincides with what the couple behind me saw. Said it went slightly airborn right before she landed.

So I can only imagine the force behind that impact...30-35mph, one heavy ass pig landing right on the top corner...the WHOLE body is shifted and bent.

Insurance wise, she's fully covered. State Farm has always been a GREAT company to me. Right now the are attempting to find a value, and have told me to find comparables. I handed the adjuster a sheet of upgrades totalling (another pun intended) around $8,000 in upgrades/add ons not counting the rebuilt motor. I have no idea where they will value this. Hopefully all these years of paying insurance will pay off!

Thanks for everyones thoughts...it really does suck and hits more and more each day.

Hey ben,

Would you consider taking the body off the pig (once the insurance dust settles) and rework a 40 tub onto it or maybe a 45 tub with a trayback or flatbed? the wheelbase of the 55 is perfect as we all know for crawling as well as expedition type use so at least then you could keep your platform and purchase a fiberglass/other type cruiser tub and make a unique vehicle. The one I know of was on the cover of TT last fall.. two 40 tubs grafted together on a 55 frame and driveline. Just a thought..

if you get a 45 tub and some how make it "extra cab" and add a flat bed.. that was what I was thinking, slap it right on your nicely built running gear and call it an FJ-fifty somethinerother:D

more than one out there. kurt actually made two and sold one to a friend. also, my buddy steve made an extended cab 45 on a 55 frame. that's the rig that was recently totalled
