Yeah, wheel rub is an issue and some go to extreme lengths to fix that .. But what I'm thinking is that a 34" tires isn't going to have nearly as much wheel rub .. I guess you can put rubber axle stops into further improve this ..

Personally, I think many of the people running 33-34" tires that feel COG is compromised with larger tires don't have experience in a well set up 80 with 3-4" of lift and 37's. It takes some effort to do 37's on a 3" lift and maintain full suspension travel, but its totally doable. If you don't care about suspension travel you car run huge bumpstops to keep them from rubbing but then what's the point? I think a 3" lift and 37's is the sweet spot for tires big enough to play in big rocks but not so big that it sucks to drive on the road, and center of gravity is not bad at all.
The suspension setup is a large factor too. My current suspension is way more stable feeling at the limit than my old OME suspension was.
I ran 35s in my previous setup and the rubbing was not an issue on a 4" lift. 37s was also not an issue until i started running 1.5" spacers for a wider stance. the wider stance definitely helps with the stability and lower CG that i was looking for...
A 4 inch lift with 35s is a standard setup with no rubbing. I have been running it for years. So have many others on MUD.

Trimming - small piece of inside of front valance
Tires- 37 x 12.50 R17 KM2's
Rims- 17 x 9 allied beadlocks, 4.5" BS

I can see that 37's are useful in the snow ..

Yeah, I'm thinking about a OME 2.5" lift adjustable Nitro shocks with and 34.5" tires .. Probably going to go with steely rims because they hold up very well .. Probably add some Superflex Radius Arms front & back, sway bars .. Haven't figured out which sway bars yet .. I've got a lot of work to do .. Found GREAT aluminum radiators .. I'll need to add some spal pull fans because the engine fan is not efficient at low RPM .. Most likely will run 4 high CFM fans .. I'll need to design some a sheet metal fan bracket to screw to or weld to the radiator .. Geeze .. I got so much to do with the new rig that's coming .. Not here yet ..

I have discovered that there are far more 35.25'-35.75" tires on the market than their are 34.5" tires .. So I am talking with Filthy Motorsports about tires, wheels, & suspension .. Due to the internals and valving I think I am going to go with King Shocks ..

What are the adjustable Nitro shocks you're talking about? Did you mean the BP51 OME shocks? Also, don't know of any Superflex rear arms. Maybe I just haven't seen or heard of them yet?
Yeah, Superior Engineering does a fantastic set of rear control arms .. My bad .. I have flip flopped on the BP51's and have decided to go with some King Shocks as well .. Primarily because I can get shocks with a bigger pistons and various valving which means over long hauls the shocks will be tuned better and have less fade due to heat .. The pistons in the BP51 are smaller than the King shocks I am planning to put in ..
What tire size and lift height are you running ? How much shock piston travel are you running ? ..Not to derail the thread from 37's, but you might check these out too. I have the Slinky stage5 suspension. Shocks are 2.5, remote reservoir, dual bypass and adjustable rebound and compression. Personally I like them better than KINGS.

Tires are 37x13.50. 3” suspension lift (full Slinky kit) with 12” of shock travel and I use all of it.
Bypass shocks are very Kewl .. But I don't know if I will be driving that rough to justify the extra features .. I do like the idea of running Bump Stops instead of rubber because of rebound .. I don't want to modify my wheel wells to run 37" 's ..

With 37" 's I expect you did some wheel well modifications ? ..
Adam has done an outstanding job of fitting those wide 37s on a 3.5" lifted non fender cut Adventure rig.
He did some nip & cut, but no major fender Sawzall cutting...
