Pablo, the OE plug is a drain/fill. Since it was cut and rotated it makes the plug lower than it originally was orientated, so if you filled it from the OE hole you would either be shy on the amount of oil you need, or you would have to jack the front end way upto get it at the normal angle. This just makes it simpler.

Local parts stores didnt have any cone washers, Toyota wanted 3.85 each and would have to order them. Local truck shop had them and sold me 8 of them for 5 bucks! Score! back in buisness.

Got back to the 55 nd set them in the arms, wasn't fully happy with the fit so I ordered the Toyota ones. Friday ill take a picture of the two side by side.

upper plug is just a fill/check plug. drain plug is on the bottom of the axle housing.
won't it make it hard to check/top off?
on the 68, we moved the drain plug up a touch on the cover and welded the original hole closed.

Pablo since you asked these are the cone washers i picked up next to the toyota OE ones. Obvious differences, taller, and no split. The non OE ones are meant to be a crush type washer like a drain pan washer is. So it gets crushed and presses itself into the gaps. OE one just shrinks the gap to fit.




I'll obviously be using the OE ones, however in a pinch im sure these crush type ones would work just fine.

I am guessing the crush type would be difficult to remove. People complain about getting the cone washers out!

Lol, another reason I'm using the OE lol. Once those crush on there they would be a HUGE pita to get out. Being as mine will be probably be torn apart again in 6 months I'd rather not have the headache.

put a bit of antiseize on them when you put them in. will help them come out easier. i also position the slit to the outside so it's easy to stick a small punch or screwdriver in to force them out.

the other ones are made to be knocked out from the side (you would hit the top of the hub and the deformation pops them out.

After a long over due time frame, the Pig is FINALLY back on all fours. Funny how gitty i got. On to some work pics.

Getting the wiper assembly all back together. (btw i would have taken more pictures, but MAN is this a greasy job!)





Seal and bearings pressed back in and all greased up.

Todays job is putting the brake lines back together and measuring shocks. Looks like i'll be going with the Fox Racing 2.0 shocks to finish everything off. Pretty excited!




Still need to pick up some extended bump stops, and extend out the rear brake line. Then i get to drive it home! here's to hoping it doesn't ride like poop!

Btw, putting a hub assembly together for the first time was a treat. Had to tinker with it for a little bit to understand how it works. Apparently a little different than jeep hubs, as even my fab guy was staring at it a touch cross eyed. lol

Out in the day light.



Put about 15 miles on it now. Drives a TON better now. amazing how lifting it and adding big tires actually made it drive better (with some tweaking we did while it was down)

And thanks guys, im definitely glad it turn out good! About half way through i was having doubts lol.

Ron, as far as i know its not factory, i was given two cans of spray paint for touch ups when i bought it, hahaha.
