Shocks came in!

a quick fix, however sometime in the not so distant future i'll be doing a P/S conversion and shock hoops, so it'll work for now.

Also would like to note. After having this thing down for slightly over a month i was VERY excited to start driving it again on nice days! Drove it to my brothers house and decided to do some quick playing in the ditch!

Love having my Pig back!

Also while laying under my pig on the creeper for the heck of it, i found my steering vibration/bump i've been feeling. At first i just though it was some play in the tie rods, but now with most of the tie rods replaced i assumed it wasnt them.

Well i found my exhaust manifold sitting on my steering box....everytime i hit a decent bump it taps the box and makes a vibration through the steering shaft....nice.

My solution to the problem is, buy two hockey pucks, sleeve the hole, and use it as a mount, should make my engine about a 1/4 - 1/2 inch higher.

I've been kicking around shocks and what to buy. What made you go with Fox. I've read they one of the best. Is that 2.0 the model to get and finally, what company did you buy from.

I've got alot to learn about shocks.

Thanks Man, your truck looks really good, on the back 40.

Ron, As far as shocks go, i consulted with the guy that did my spring over. He does hardcore rock crawling and gave me a few options to go with. For what im looking to do with this (expedition style) He said that the Fox 2.0's would be perfect. There quality shocks that will last, but arent super extreme (price wise, or fab wise) I picked them up through ZFAB offroad (the guy that did my SOA) he gave me a deal i couldnt pass up on them.

The next step up would be going with an external reservoir shock (which would be way overkill for me) as it gives you more suspension travel (which i didnt need) or coilover. Fox doesnt sell a direct replacement shock for my application (length of travel, ect..) so we went with some that are the same valving front and back and the proper length travel.

I ended up with part #98224950 (Rear originally fits a 93-98 grand cherokee) and 98224650 (Front fits 99-04 F250)

"while laying under my pig on the creeper for the heck of it"... I find my self doing this quite often.

Hard to tell, but slightly larger shaft, and about 2" longer. These were my loaner shocks from Zfab so i could drive around until my Fox's came in. my original Ranchos were about 4 inches shorter and woudnt fit. Rears, same story as front. Rear ranchos were for a lifted vehicle already so they are about the same difference between the fox's and rough country.

Well fixed my exhaust hitting the steering box issue today "hopefully". Did the old hockey puck trick, never have done it with mount so close to the exhaust before, so we'll see if i run into any melting issues :hhmm: Did some research and really couldnt find the melting point of a hockey puck. So figure i'll give it a shot and see what happens. I'll just keep a close eye on it the first couple times i take it out. :meh:

On to some pics

Getting started, unbolted the mount and lifted up the engine.

driver side

passenger side

here you can see my "issue"

old mount setup

You can see here how groved it was causing the driver side of the engine to dip into the exhaust

on to the build process lol. The two mounts side by side

Clamping it down on something to drill into it.

"new" mounts, i left the bottom rubber part as it didnt seem to bad.

new clearance

mount installed

Lets hope this fixes things :D

I love the creativity! Good luck.

Good Idea. Any leaks on the manifold. As far as melting goes, you should put one in your Wife's oven and keep turning it up, until it melts. Then you'll know. :) You'll know how comfortable sleeping in the pig is!

Good Job!

As I read your post I was thinking, "Yeah, and the wife will be real happy when the oven smells like melted hocky puck!"

:D

My initial thought is that hocky pucks are designed to function on ice... Keep us posted as to how this works!

figured if they melt, its only a 3 dollar mistake, and hopefully i can limp it home the 10 miles between work and home. lol

npulver, stock springs? and a SOA. And your tires are 37s? correct. How about updating your SOA thread.

Thanks Bob.

Yup, stock springs and a SOA with 37's. Im also running slightly lover offset (backspaced) rims with 1 1/4 inch spacers to clear everything.

And your right, i should go update my SOA thread. Lots have been learned!

Been about 80 degrees for the last few days and have logged about 100 miles on the new motor mounts. Figured i would give a quick update and say the seem to be doing great!

I'm sure they'll be fine, guys have used them for body lifts before. You just might have to change them out ever so often, but like you said, cheap enough. At the least, they gave you some time to figure something more permanent out.

Been a little while since i last posted, not really any progress, just another adventure or two.

Went camping for the first time with the pig, just me and my little guy, it was the first time cruising thought the hills with the pig since the lift and it did a great job. Glad to be enjoying it before it goes in for more surgery/mods.

Then yesterday i towed with it for the first time, i have a 5 1/2" drop hitch. found out its about 5 inches shorter than it needs to be. So i'll be on the look out for a 10-12 inch drop hitch so i can tow with he pig. Ended up being pretty nice, being the Toyota guy that i am, and working at Jeep, i get a lot of flak. Well i got my revenge yesterday. I purchased this 2005 Grand Cherokee with a hemi for 1250 bucks and had to tow it home.
