Finishing up the install. More pics to come. Happy with the Redline Kit, talked with them on the phone a couple times during to clarify a couple things.

The leafs wrap partially around the main leaf, so that is supporting the main leaf completely. The spring eyes are much larger than stock which will help the bushings last longer than the far too small stock bushings and make for a more stable ride. Im guessing with the larger leaf eyes a military wrap wouldn't fit in the stock fj40 mounts. I've not seen many modern leaf springs crack unless they have like 500k miles on them except composite leaf springs. But if you have a very specific leaf design in mind it is probably best to have them custom made rather than use a off the shelf lift spring.

This kit really looks great. I was very close to picking one up earlier this month I changed some things on my 40 and used some springs I had. It rides much better now, not sure it is as good as these would, but I like the ways these look better than others on the market. Reading and knowing how spring packs should be made, these look like they check all the boxes.

Love the stance of it. Rides so so much better. One of the reasons that drew me to the redline kit is the rear wheel spacing is proportionate. The Procomp springs they used to use and the new springs they had manufactured keep it perfectly center unlike other kits. Always bugged me seeing a new OME kit placed and the tire and wheel not being center.

Looks great and love the white wheels too!

Seriously considering this for my next upgrade. Thanks for the reviews and install pictures!

My kit arrived about 3 days after shipping, strapped nicely to a pallet. Definitely a forklift job to unload from the freight truck. Packaging was solid — nothing damaged.

First Impressions
  • Everything looked well-made and heavy duty.
  • Most parts had the Red Line branding and part numbers stamped in, which I liked.
  • Instructions are online, and all the springs were clearly labeled (driver/passenger, front/rear).
Installation:
  • I started with the front. Pulled the old springs, supported the axle with jacks, and swapped in the supplied bushings.
  • Spring pins: these were the only real issue. They aren’t Red Line branded, and the nut on the pin was about .03” too large to fit cleanly. I had to shave the hole slightly with a Dremel — quick job, but make sure to treat the area with rust prevention afterward.

  • Spring pin bolts: the two OEM bolts that hold the pins in place are too long and will contact the spring head. I replaced them with M8 × 12mm bolts with washers from a local hardware store, and they fit perfectly.
  • The Bilstein shocks looked great and went in without trouble. Just a note: the kit doesn’t come with the castle nuts and shock caps — you’ll need to reuse your originals or order them separately.
  • Once I figured out the spring pin fit and swapped the bolts, the rest of the install went smoothly.

Before & After:

I snapped pictures before and after. The stance looks much better, but I did notice the driver side sits a 1/2 inch higher. I have contacted them about this haven’t got anything back yet.

First Drive:

I’m currently on 30” tires, and for the first time I can actually “rock” the FJ. Ride is way more controlled compared to the 50-year-old suspension I pulled off.

Overall:

Other than the spring pin/bolt quirk, installation was straightforward, quality is impressive, and the ride difference is night and day.

I’ll update once I get more miles on it and figure out the driver-side height so far I have got no answer back from Red Line.

I’d love to do a comparison, since mine is essentially the procomp kit they used to offer before procomp discontinued 40 springs.

If I'm reading the contents correctly, it states the load offerings are "specifically sized
Shackles, Front and Rear". Are the length of those shackles pin to pin available, or is that confidential information? Asking as I see people measuring ride height but obviously that could differ based on shackle/load choice.

That does look really good. What size tires do you have?
