The 2UZ and DD dash work almost seamlessly together. I think this is mostly due to the fact that the 2UZ was put in so many variants. For example, the oil pressure hookup. The factory adapter for the Tundra has 2 extra threaded ports on it that were both plugged with a large set screw. The DD kit comes with about 6 different adapters for each sender, so one of them was perfect.
Same with the water temp sensor. There were 2 ports on the thermostat housing from the factory, one was for the OEM ECU, so I just used the other.
The tach was an interesting issue... the very first time I got the 2UZ started, the tach worked fine, although the wiring looked like the glove box was trying to spew up multi colored wiring. It was an absolute mess. After I got everything sorted and ran 'properly', the tach decided it did not want to work any more. I spent about 2 weeks trying to diagnose that issue. I even had the 4Runner praked next to it, tapped in to it's tach signal. Scott Johnson, my sales rep at DD, was extremely helpful in the process. Being that this was their first experience with this engine, their guess was as good as mine. He would send me parts (overnight) to throw in and see if that made a difference. He even sent me a complete new brain unit. Finally, they sent me a tach converter. Not only is it designed to convert tach signals to different cyl counts, it also cleans up the signal. IT WORKED!!! I was so relieved! There is nothing more frustrating that having something work and not being able to figure out what you did to make it not work. I still never pinpointed what it was that interfered with the signal, but I'm guessing it was one of the other electronic components in the car since the wires are now bundled together tightly.
The speedo was easy. Since I was using the 100 series transfer case, I was able to use the OEM 100 series VSS. All it needed was power and ground, and it gave out a nice pulse the DD liked. I calibrated it with the GPS on my phone, and now it's good to go!
The fuel sender was the same. I actually calibrated it with the sender out the tank. I would just move the float up and down as required.
Lastly, for all of the other inputs like turn signal and high beam, they are just simple 12v inputs to light up the indicator light.

Just finished reading this. I am looking for an early 90s Lexus with the 1uz and pull the entire drive train. I think I will be able to put a R series 5 speed transmission behind it. Right now its just an idea in my head but I think I can make it happen.
I love your build! Lots of attention to details. One thing I didn't see in the thread was information about your audio setup. would you mind sharing what components you used? did you put any speakers in the rear? If so, how did you hide the wiring?
This build is completely amazing!!! Personally the look of the FJ40 is timeless, adding a Toyota V-8 and all the power windows windows, AC, etc....makes it literally one of a kind. HEY TOYOTA, YOU CAN LEARN FROM THIS! MAKE IT, AND THEY WILL COME!

I don't think I've posted a picture of the back of my center console yet....
This could possibly be the first FJ40 in the world with heated jump seats! There are heating pads in the bottom and back rest portion of each!
There is also a constant 12v power supply (from my AUX battery).
This was taken yesterday evening... a nice drive out to Lake Mead with my wife.

Funny you should ask... I originally bought visors out of a newer Nissan. They were dark gray and had mirrors and lights, but the main reason I got them is because they had HomeLink buttons for our garage door. They were going to be extremely difficult to mount them and look like they belong, so I decided not to use them!

Here are the visors I'm using. They were a bit on the spendy side, but I knew I wanted them right when I saw them. They are made by Axia Alloys. I am going to order their rear view mirror and fire extinguisher mount as well. Everything is billet aluminum, and extremely well made.

I will have one at the end of the week. I slightly disassembled my interior (temporarily)!
Thank you! I just added a a mirror that is the same brand. With my slightly taller driver seat and the low hanging OEM rear view mirror, it could easily block a person or car. The new mirror sits higher, is wider, slightly convex, and made of real glass! It makes a HUGE difference!
I've been browsing their site... their fire extinguisher mount is ingenious and will likely find it's way onto my rear cage.

I was looking at the Axia extinguisher mount as well, I just couldn't justify the price. It's twice as much as this one I got:
