Dude, Whats wrong with me? I have more time and a better garage and I can't keep up with all you'r getting done. Your cruiser looks so good and is really coming along quickly. I am going out to work on mine right now!

I am going to be doing the same thing next weekend, is the dog available to help?

Mel - Looking great!!!

Where'd you get the new flanges and how much? I wanted to pick up a spare set, but everywhere I've found them seems to be too pricey...

the 4 speed has larger drive shafts than my 71 equiped 3 speed

in order to make the larger shafts work,

I had to get new flanges for my 3rds

to complete the job I replaced the seals, slingers and stake nuts

nice work

Mel, Chasing down parts, restoring a cruiser, and 70 hrs a week; That was enough. But you have a dog, too! Nice. Keep up the good work,I'm looking forward to seeing this rig competed. John

Nice job any particular reason you stuck with the coarse splined birfs?

and what type of grease did you use?

89s- grease came from tpi4x4.com belray brand

If I could do it again....

I would have upgraded the front to mini truck discs, knuckles birfs and arms, instead of the jto set up. I purchased the jto kit before I joined mud.

It is all a learning curve man...

When I think about all the things that I have 'learned' since 1988 and continue to daily, I just smile, and hope that I can prevent just one person some day from paying for the same college credits that I already have.....

This is just one of the many awsome things about Brian's site.

22.

I think a lot of people leave these out on a rebuild and they are a source for problems down the road. WOrn bushing cause the hi speed gear to woble (since it is the one most used) and it causes the dogs and collar #23 to wear prematurely.

unfortunatly you need a press to replace these. SOmething I didn't have in the shop and didn't do it. WIsh I had. They aren't expensive from toyota and are just as valuable as any of the bearings in a transfer case.

Good job on replacing 23 a lot of people miss this also.

And 19 is another one that ought to be replaced.

15 can be skipped as long as they don't fall apart upon dissasembly (usually a sign to replace) but if 19 (idler gear shaft) is even slightly worn I would also replace these.

Good job in replacing what you did. SOme peole just replace seals and maybe the ouput shaft bearing and call it a rebuild. A long way from a true rebuild.

BUt there is nothing in the world that can compare to a properly rebuilt transfer case.
