Great Job getting things done!

It might just be the influence of my video/monitor and the net but that Rustoleum color is the closest match to Toyota's Freeborn Red that I've seen, maybe just a shade or two deeper and nicer.

edit: Damn! what's the date? Doh! :)

Great job! I also have a pizza place but even w/ my limited mech skills, I can't wrench and get clean hands before the next shift of work. Keep up the good work! John

Very nice job. I wish I could have gotten more done with mine than you have with yours with the same amount of time you spent. Nice job!. I like the idea of doing the painting while on the body. It gives me inspiration to start doing my body work. Since most everything else is done.

Per health code regulations, in FLA, you are not allowed to touch any "RTE" foods.... you must use gloves or tongs. You are only allowed bare hand contact with foods before they are cooked....once they are "ready to eat" there is no touching. SO, since I must wear gloves to handle food, it only seems natural to wear gloves for all my wrenching as well. I have had almost zero "bare hand contact" with my resto project. I sometimes will wear 2 pairs and change the top layer freqeuntly.

tranny install mistakes

moved clutch slave to passenger side (not a mistake)

I am using the 4 speed bellhousing, got everything inside the belhousing together, made some pins to guide tranny in place and turns out they are too long. The transmission went in at an angle causing the clutch to move out of place. the tranny would not go into the pilot bearing. I had to remove the tranny, align the clutch, shorthen the pins, and try again.

In order to make sure everything lined up a little better. I loosened the motor mounts lowering the rear of the engine. I also made the my studs a lot shorter (also adding a notch for a flat head screw driver) I used 3 of these as pins to get the tranny lined up. After it was in place, I exchanged the pins one at time with bolts which made the job a lot easier.

the tranny slipped right into place

Yeah, all this work is going on in my back yard I keep it clean and low key. The parts rig was making this challenging, so it had to go. I gathered all I could from the 74 and sent it off with a new pair of owners

The 4 speed has larger drive shafts than my 71 equiped 3 speed. In order to make the larger shafts work, I had to get new flanges for my 3rds. To complete the job I replaced the seals, slingers and stake nuts.
