I’m still 100% sold on my fuel systems on both my Snipers using the Robbie Mac PowerSurge
So if I understand this right, the power surge unit has its own electric fuel pump inside and the mechanical pump on the engine block is what feeds the canister? From your reports, it apparently keeps up just fine, but maybe I am not understanding how this item works....
????

PS: Think it would work on a V8 conversion??

I'm on my 5th Cruiser but to be honest my first carburated vehicle ever, unless you count my snowblower. All of my other cruisers have been diesel.

With the roof off on my 1980 FJ40 (stock 2F) the exhaust gas stinks to the point where I have to throw my clothes in the laundry after a drive. I've tuned the carb, adjusted the mixture, and turned the exhaust tip away from getting spun up by the rear passenger tire. It's an exhaust smell not a fuel smell.

Here's my question; in addition to the other benefits listed, would EFI clean up the gassy stink on a 40 year old engine?

Thanks.

I'd think adding a catalytic converter would just about fix your problem, wouldn't it? EFI could help.

I don’t notice any exhaust smell on my Holley setup. But I also haven’t taken the top off. Out of curiosity, what’s the condition of your exhaust? It is in good shape? If you have an exhaust leak, that could also contribute to the smell.

As others have suggested, you need a catalytic converter to kill the odor. Do you have one installed? The odor isn't a product of the fuel delivery system. It's from the oxides that a healthy converter will clean up.

I agree with the above that a catalytic converters will help with the exhaust smell. But a truck running too rich will also contribute to the smell, regardless of cat installed or not.

I had the same problem on my stock carb ‘77. Exhaust would knock you down. My solution was a number of things.

Rebuilt carb properly tuned. It was running rich.

New gas tank. Old one had tiny pin holes in it.

New gas lines, vacuum lines, and properly de smogged. Previously it wasn’t de smogged correctly.

After I did all this I don’t have any issues with fumes.

I did have the exhaust pressure tested, it's tight and works well.

Might look into a cat...not required up in the great white north for that year.

I removed the cat from my old 4Runner and would get stinky exhaust in through the back window, so I put one back in and it fixed the problem. IMHO it would be the best 100 bucks you could spend if youre getting an exhaust smell problem. :meh:

FWIW my completely-desmogged 1980 has no cat converter, and no exhaust smell.

Next up was the temp sensor and o2 sensor.
The temp sensor has a 3/8 npt thread so I needed to get an adapter. Thankfully I have a great resource here in Salem Oregon that has about every adapter imaginable.
I will need to reinstall the original temp sensor soon.
The O2 sensor was plug and play since I already had a bung installed.

What adapter did you use for the TEMP SENSOR? The stock thread, doesn't fit the Holley temp sensor

The sniper temp sensor will thread into the block drain under the intake manifold.

Where did you relocate your External Voltage Regulator then?
I went with a later alternator with internal regulator From a 60 series iirc.

^This... made it nice and easy to install... however, be prepared to do some clean out work on that block drain.

I just got my sniper in the post yesterday. I've ordered the manifold adapter from Redline Land Cruisers but i'm wanting to use my OE heat shield (if possible)
Has anyone done this? Possible cutting the carb plate out of it and just using the shield portion?

Hello everyone. Will this work on a 69 1F engine ? If yes does anyone have a link to a full ready to DIY kit ? If not who in Arizona can do this for me ?
