Wanted to show pics of the Marlin Crawler axle seals after 100k mi.

Heard some people say they are inferior to the OEM seals; less deflection and such.

Well, they held up really well in my opinion...

Not saying there wasn't any soup that came out, because there was some, but just saying that it seems the Marlin Crawler seals did an awesome job, I think anyway.

I'd agree. A big part of how long an inner shaft seal lasts is the installation process, mainly not letting the weight of the shaft rest on the seal during the axle install. This might be especially true with Marlin's seals. I'll be finding out myself shortly, PM is due and I plan on replacing Toy seals with Marlin's parts.

Look good to me. That was on a full time AWD?

When I had some on my 80 it was because the old LX had 215k birfs & the shaft had a slight groove - the point of using the Marlins was to give yourself some extra life out of birfs.

Good looking birf shafts = Toy seals

Grooves showing on birf = Marlins

I'd bought new birfs & OE seals for my black 80 & until it groves the shafts, I'll do rebuilds with OE seals.

I was told Marlins are the "last chance seal" for birfs near end of life, if you have good looking shaft where the seal rides, OE is what the doctor ordered.

you're one of the few. s*** my MC seals lasted like 20k before I had leaks from my knuckles. I only use toyota seals after that.

Stock axle breather cap? or have you removed the check valve?

I have both of these seals. I'm going to throw the Toyota seals in and have the Marlins as a back up if I ever need them, which I doubt I will. Maybe I'll sell them.

toyteg08: did you do the front axle service for routine maintenance?

FWIW it's been 40,000 miles since installing Marlin seals with my original ~300,000 mile grooved axle shafts (and side-swapped modified grease-able 300K birfields); no soup, no leaks, no clicks. But then the OEM seals lasted almost 200,000 miles before they leaked based on the maintenance records. IMO the soup starts when the wear grooves in the shafts get too deep for the OEM seal lips to seal effectively. As mentioned above and IME the Marlin seal has deeper/wider/tighter lips that seal better with grooved axle shafts.

Yep, my MC seals have been in for about 70,000km and I have a part time kit. Left hand side is pouring out straight oil, not even soup.
I have a pair of genuine seals ready to go in when I have time for a rebuild.

Yeah. Well, a little late on the routine part I guess... Supposed to do a re-pack every 60K mi, right? I last did it at 136K, and he's got 231K something mi on him now, so about 35K too late.:hillbilly:

But we're leaving on a long trip on Monday, and I wanted everything buckled up maintenance wise before we left.
