So, I bought a new ride. Picked up a 1997 FZJ80 with just over 149000 on the clock. LOCKED. So excited for this find. Actually did my homework and looked over the truck really well. It was covered in snow from a storm we had a day or two ago. Seller was an awesome dude for working with me on the price. I think $5000 is fair. Pics or it didn't happen right?

But the front seats are pretty worn out. They do however move in all directions with the CORRECT input from the switches. Something I can't enjoy on the Beat up beast.

Third Row is in good shape. May keep in in for now.

It does have a few blemishes but it's really in great shape.

Dent in tailgate. Need to order the Wagon Gear and fix this at the same time.

An actual antenna and it goes up and down. That's pretty awesome.

So this Toyota Security deal is in the place were my CDL is supposed to go. How should I address this? Also does this mean I should have keyless entry because I didn't get a remote or anything. Don't have this on the 96 so someone school me on that.


Over all I'm really excited and after getting somewhat hosed on my last cruiser that was purchased at a shady dealer that didn't disclose severe front end damage in the past I really made sure to look this one over. Even got underneath it in the snow to check it out. Does have some leaks on the bottom but it didn't look too concerning. Going to take it to my trusted dealership and have a fellow 'Mudder do a proper inspection on it.

Should be plenty of blanks slots to locate the CDL. I moved some of my switches around where they made better sense to me.

As far as a security system, look under the drivers seat to see if the port installed unit is still there. If you can find a used key fob you might get it to work using the directions Slee has posted on the Rs3000 or whatever it is called. If I had to buy a new key fob remote I would probably just have a new viper system installed with better range and features like remote start.

Look under the driver's seat (knelling outside looking from DS to PS) for an electrical module. Using a flashlight see if there is a tiny green button in a little hole. If so, then look for a thread I started called "LX Remote Success".

I have the same "option." I simply moved my CDL to the location that your rear windshield defroster currently is in. Then, I moved the defroster down to the blank next to the Rear Heater. Works great, and keeps the "heat to the back of the rig" buttons in the same place for these cold New England winters.

I hate you so much, I recently bought a 91 with 268k miles for 4k in california.

I mean its in slightly better shape than this one but only slightly and its had the axles rebuilt, but its still a 91 with a 3fe and no lockers.

K294 is actually the code how to determine that the particular land cruiser was equipped with "only" the wiring and magic dial
no lockers!! Just pre-wired!!

K924 is the real deal that actually had the factory lockers.....

Your on drugs. K292 is no lockers, K294 is factory locked. Refer to slee buyers guide. Mine is K294

AFAIK the 4 refers to number of gears in the differential spider. 2 pinion/spider = open carrier. 4 pinion/spider is LSD or locker.

I have some lighting questions. I've been doing some looking and I'm getting ready to order a lot of stuff for PM and I have some lighting issues. There are no lights on the right side of the Speedo/tach display. So at night no speedometer fuel guage or battery lighting. I also know that I need a check engine light (doesn't come on when starting vehicle). How many bulbs are on that right side? Also, almost all the bulbs in my switches need to be replaced. And the bulbs behind my AC control unit need to be replaced (they've actually been removed for some reason). When ordering bulbs is it just the bulb or also the little plastic bulb holder than comes in? I'm going to need those for the AC unit. And lastly, is the part number the same for each of the switch lights? The only one that works in the CDL I think (and that's because that switch was bought 2 years ago for the 96).
