Hey fellas, looking for some guidance. I'm going to have some nitro 4.88's installed on my 1992 3fe. Since that's being done, what locker options would you all suggest? I like the idea of a E-locker vs ARB but there doesn't seem to be much available for the 91-92 LC's at least not what I've found.

Eaton makes the Harrop E- Locker, The thirds on the 91-92 Should be the same as the 93-97 LC. The 91-92 Just have smaller brakes and no full float rear axle. I would look for some locked OEM axles to swap in as this would get you the bigger brakes and the full float.
I Know the last time I was whelling with the group I go with there was a conversion with the Guys that have Air lockers and all three of them have some kind of leaky air issue. I personally am a fan of the OEM e-locker and love mine.
Cheers

An Aussie locker in the rear is cheap, reliable, and durable. I ran one for several years.

I have had ARB’s in two different rigs and like them. Sure, there has been a couple air leaks but those were due to shoddy install jobs and were easily fixed. My current ARB’s are ten years old and working well. I’ve run them in temps ranging from 10f - 100f. They are strong and actuate very quickly.

Having heard good things about the Harrop’s, I wouldn’t be against tryIng them out either.

My internal bonded seal (has nothing to do with the install job unless you drop the locker) keeps leaking. Arb sent me a new one, and surprise, it worked for 6 months and then started leaking. It's not even a part that seals against a rotating surface.

ARB sucks

Most likely has been out sourced to china. Good luck...

It'd probably be built right if it was. Instead some hack Aussie union machinist fighting a kangaroo sloppily put it together after "getting pissed" the previous night

That's a bummer. Maybe I got lucky with mine. I've got older (age unknown but well over 5 years old) ARBs in my rig. They've worked great for the 3 years (and 70,000 miles) I've owned it. I have heard of other folks having leaks though.

Currently running factory e-lockers. My last truck had ARB’s, which worked great. The problem with them was having some worry in the back of mind. Definitely had parts to repair failures. With e-locker those thoughts disappear. High confidence, low stress.

Have had a spartan before in an 80. It was awesome and worked flawlessly. Plan for some towing in the future so going with a harrop for the rear this time, otherwise would just throw a spartan in again. For $350 or whatever I paid they are a pretty tough proposition to beat.

Harrop e-lockers:

Front

Rear

Trouble free with no airlines or additional seals to go bad. If you're changing diff gears, it's an excellent time to install them. Zuk is a good choice to do both and get it done right the 1st time.

In a different vehicle (not my LC), I put a TORQ locker in the front, which is an automatic locker made by the same company that makes the Aussie locker. I don't love it, it makes a racket on U-turn in 2WD and is really hard to steer in 4WD. I do love the OEM e-lockers in my '80, but had to do work to get them reliable since they were somewhat neglected by the PO.

Here's a link to an older discussion on the Kaiser lockers:

Echoing what others have said, I am doing a rear axle swap and throwing in Harrop Eaton E-Locker A9378. I don't see a need for a front locker as I don't do crazy rock crawling.

I won't be doing much if any serious crawling. I was thinking about a TruTrac for the rear and a harrop for the front for an "oh s***" moment.
The most I'd be really towing is a fishing boat. More of a Hunt, fish, camp rig setup.

I don't know how effective a limited slip diff would be in this truck. And just a reminder: The front end is weaker than the rear, locking it is riskier. Also, turning is would be greatly impacted with a locked front.

If you don't wheel hard at all, an auto locker in the rear might be enough. Cheap and effective, although your driving/handling behavior might change. Decisions, decisions...

I own ARBs exclusively

I hate them

I second this. I've had ARB's front and rear for probably 10 years now and there is always a drama. They are always leaking air. I've replaced the inner seal twice on the rear and I'm about to do it again. I call them my ARB Air Leakers. All there good for is cleaning out the diff breather.
I'd definitely go for some sort of E locker next time, way less parts to go wrong. The OEM ones would be ideal but they seem a bit rarer over here in Aus compared to you guys.

Same. Just yesterday, I discovered my bonded seal is also toast. What the heck
