@c2dfj45 I sucked it up and bought the under dash A/C components from Partsouq yesterday. Did yours bolt straight up? I was reading your build #2 and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

My cab is a 3/2009 build.

Well remember that #2 is a 09 cab with an airbag dash in it. So there are some changes but with regards to the AC, it actually bolted right up...but it's different than a non airbag AC for sure. You'll want anything that is pre-airbag....so 96-09 I think. I usually pick 07 for some reason....probably because that was the first of the aero nose trucks.

MAKE SURE YOU ORDER the heater with the AC. The first one I was sent was heat only and had a filler where the evaporator went. The correct unit was actually in the US. I got that one from @cruiserdan when he was slingin' parts.

When you get it in I want to come look at it. I tore everything down on mine a long time ago and could use some guidance putting it back together.

@Mr Cimarron that’s not what I wanted to hear. I was hoping YOU would show me how to do it!

I can put the dash and vents together no problem. The problem is I took all the metal vent doors off for cleaning along with the plastic pieces that open everything. The dash goes together pretty easy. All the vents are different shapes so they only go together one way. Also you can put it all together out of the truck for storage as the metal skeleton holds it all together except for the main heater pieces.
If your like me you will put it together and then admire it inside the house.

I got the switch, new cables, but not the face plate or lighted selector switch yet. Had to keep cost down. Next order for sure.

Lighted selector? They don't have a button....the switch has an inner and outer knob...outer portion engages AC. Hopefully it plugs into your harness!

It damn well better.

There is a lighted indicator somewhere, Partsouq is currently out of that.

There is a blank plug on that face plate but nothing goes there as far as I know. Have a part number for that light?

I though the blank was where the AC on/off switch went?

Have you got there notification to work? I set it up to notify me when things are back in stock but it doesn’t work.

This is how my 75 is. This is how my 79 #1 is too. No light....no button.

Maybe that blank plug is for a different market or something that gets ACs installed after they are sold or shipped or something. My Rav4 dash #2 has the same arrangement.....no light...just a dual knob switch.

Always wondered why no buttons....all my other Toyotas have buttons that light.

I think this face plate is so cool...no heat. The knob must be broken because that metal toggle switch was for the AC switch.

I thought the knob was always just for blower only.

No sir.....blower on the inner knob AND outer knob engages the AC. When you rotate the outer knob as far as it will go clockwise, the AC system comes on. As far as I can tell...it does nothing else unless it's all the way to the end of it's travel and engages the AC system. 28k miles on mine with the AC on nearly every one of those miles. Lol.

Turns out my AC is wired all wrong......but it comes on and it's cold! Will revisit it and see what is going on.

Now it’s making sense. Never knew about the inner knob. All the 70’s I’ve looks at never had AC.

There isn't a lot out there about AC in these things that I could find. It struck me so strange that there was no indicator light. Will be interesting to see what @bottombracket found when he ordered his stuff. Sure would be easy to install an AC button with a light.

I'm sure the answer is out there....somebody probably knows why the knob controls the AC engagement.

Close but not exactly.

The outer knob turns it on, yup that’s true but it does that as soon as you start rotating it. Going more such as you say makes it cooler.

I know this because on the gold 70, I installed a heater and completely rebuilt all of it in the dash with new parts. In addition I worked on the idle up a lot as well. Idle up comes on as soon as the outer knob is turned.

All this and more is in the gold 70 build thread.

Cheers

So the switch blank is a “buyers choice” type of deal? Nothing officially went there?
