Yes, yes it is, Dave.

TECH. Actual tech!

Using an h15x/HF1a transmission and t case shifter moves the shifter location away from the HZJ79’s r151/split case location. The cutouts are annoyingly different and not easy to cover. I found an active part number in the US system for the gray VDJ79 mat. It came to my local dealer in 3 days.

58510-60U10-B2

The shifter cutouts line up perfectly but the snap between the front and rear mats is off a little bit. I’ll just add a new male snap onto the rear mat if it bothers me enough. Or use some Velcro to tape it down.

Also, the H15x transmission hump cover that is now available is from the VDJ7x…58013-60071, and the shifter boot is 58280-60370. The funky tapered flange bolts to attach boot to cover are 91673-80616 (x6).

List of motors for this truck:

1. Buy an FT from @joekatana. Put it in truck.
2. Sell FT because FTE sounds exciting.
3. Buy FTE from @chapel gate.
4. Sell FTE (dammit divorce).
5. Buy an FTE from @joekatana.

This one’s going in. As a late model Euro spec it will need the swirl flaps deleted and a CT26 pattern turbo and manifold. Time to get to work.

Thank you @joekatana for always finding me exactly what I need. Always great to see you, my friend.

And thank you to @Spallet for the loaner forklift and @bkcruiser for getting it running…

Doesn't OSHA require a cup holder for beer drinking/forklift safety?

Bill looks all healthy again too! Glad he survived Roundup

I edited the first post. Now I got ya tagged!

I’m alive and so is this build.

Today it’s a rolling chassis. I FINALLY solved the steering column length problem.

There is a steering column that is about 3/4 of an inch shorter. I was able to source one from @Meshal and finally get everything installed.

@shanko and @bkcruiser helped me adapt the steering column bracket to adjust it….and I’ll be damned, we are lined up straight. Or close enough!

After 5.5 years the steering wheel turns the front wheels.

Yes, I have a new steering wheel, yes, I have a new clamshell, yes I know the 80s steering box has been open to the elements and will need a rebuild, and yes, I’m going to paint the intermediate shaft and get a new lower U joint. But holy crap it feels good to turn the wheel and watch the front wheels turn left and right. And to see a gauge cluster in the dash!

Whoo hooo!!

The guy that helped guide me down this insane 79 series rabbit hole is back!!

Glad you knocked that one out. One more thorn out of your side, so to speak
