I have a reverse shackle setup on my 1975, unknown source by the previous owner.

That said, I put a 2" lift on the back using just Alcan Springs. Leveled it up nicely.

I run 33s, no problem

I have reversed shackles on my FJ 40. Will I have a problem with any lift kit?
Depends how and which reversal was put on it.
The older style requires a 2inch deference in springs...ie for a 4inch lift you would use 4in rear springs with 2inch front springs.

Yes I believe that is the setup on my ‘78. I think it was originally a Man A Fre kit installed by Dave Gore for the previous owner. I believe BTB in Henderson has loads of stuff for shackle reversal.

Dave Gore 4+ kit give the best approach angle , on my fj40 i have the old style advanced handling that is less desirable
Both kit lift the front about 1.5" , some use longer rear shackle to compensate .
The other way is 4" rear spring and 2.5" front spring

I did a shackle reversal when I was in College myself. When I ordered my new springs from Alcan in Grand Junction, CO they set up the front springs for a 3" lift and the rear for 4" lift since I used 2" square tubing or the reversal. The front is just slightly higher then the rear and I may have to use a longer shackle on the rear to level it out.

I was curious about what to do about leveling my ‘72 that has a shackle reversal. PO had put an OME 2” lift on the rear to level it out. Now it has a significant rake towards the front. I’m mainly concerned with the front DS putting a back load on the TC since the spring extends backwards when compressed with the SR setup.
Would a longer front shackle make it worse or would a front lift spring be the best solution. Also would think a caster shim would help with the steering so would add that too.
I like the way it rides compared to my ‘75 with Dobinsons and the ims shocks.

You might try a stock length in the rear.

Ideally I would like to just use a longer shackle in the front since that would be simple and less expensive option. I’m not sure how that might affect the risk to the transfer case as the front springs compress with longer shackles on a reversal setup. That’s my main concern. The rear springs were recently added so would like to keep those.

When I did mine I welded 2 square tubing to the frame then the fixed spring eye which raised the front 1" inch more then the rear. i had a ser of adjustable shackles that allowed for 1" to 2" of lift. Having the 2" shackles on both ends the front was too high. i ended up putting the stock shack back on the front and leaving the 2" and that worked pretty well.

Now with the new springs and stock length shackles the rear is just a little low.

This is home made shackle reversal, the way it is you probably have alot of positive caster, maybe too much , to correct this you can ad a spacer between the front frame horn and spring hanger, or you can remove the shackle hanger and mount the shackle through the frame , this will make the spring more horizontal , than a 2" lift spring in the front will be about level to the rear
