I havent read all responses:
Dont be too dissapointed, and accept the fact it is a USED CAR..... Did you drive it before you purchased it? If you didn't, its a lesson learned
1. Get factory service manual. Haynes/Clymer will do, but a FSR...
Yeah thats annoying about the issues after you purchased your 1964. when I purchased my fj80 a brake line broke and the rear pinion seal gave up on the drive home. I will say I tried taking an untested 1991 300 miles back home. fixed it and it...

These old trucks can be quite ornery. They have a way of biting you on the butt just to show you who is in...
1st inspect for a blown hose or something. To diagnose the problem I would not put a/f in it. I try to avoid tap water because it has too many impurities in it. You can go the grocery store and buy distilled water for cheap, probably 4+...
Thank you all for the great expert tips - even the ‘put a wrench on it’ one!
I’m happy to say the winner was soaking it with a penetrating oil and then using an easy out. Couldn’t have been easier. I hope one day I’ll have this kind of expertise...
We would love to help!

Be aware that since the shackle is only on one end of the spring pack, you only net half the extra length in actual lift height. So, if you put shackles that were 2" longer than stock on all four spring packs, you would only gain 1" in lift.
Agreed. Negative arch on a stock 40 spring is not only a sign of being worn out; it is a sign of fatigued metallurgy and impending failure. Replace ASAP!
Those springs are gone…..2nd to last picture says it all….the retaining clip is broken and the long (top leaf) is deformed, spring stack is separating.
I just bought an fj40 and i was wondering if I should change the leaf springs. They barely have any travel in the front.
are the leaf springs bad, or should I buy better shocks?
this is my first project car so, please bear with me and my bad...
the front anti inversion shackles are backwards they won’t work that way. i agree with some of the typical oil leaks. depends on the price and how it’s running it looks like a sold place to start if you don’t plan on a full on restoration. if...
@cruisermatt
Supporting vendor indeed ! Thank you for the offer. I am going to be a responsible beneficiary and spend some time this weekend with a multi meter. Get some additional data. I’ll pm you if I need the ecm.
