Let's swap a motor and do some other stuff to a 60.... (2 Viewers)

That is a very nice hood strut kit, but isn't there a well documented way of adding hood struts to 60 hoods out there already? 2 struts, 2 ball mounts and use some existing 60 mounting holes.

Is the cost/complexity of a PS cooler needed on this build? Huge tires and/or prolonged fast paced steering in the future for this truck?

With the idea of running a smaller battery and sneaking AC lines through.....have you thought about 'future proofing' that setup in case a small/Odyssey battery isn't always available?
I've read some posts about how people do their struts....some people prefer to buy in kit form so it's easy and doesn't require chasing parts. Seems like some guys had to drill holes to get their angles right....I like doing bolt on stuff and with the upper brackets done, I'm 50% there. Pretty easy.

Cost is generally not really too much of an issue on my builds fortunately. This type of cooler is totally unnecessary but if I'm in there, I'd like to be in there one time and be done with it with all new hoses.

I'll worry about batteries when I can't get the one I need......not really a huge worry. That tray is pretty nicely sized....making a new top mount to accommodate a different size battery is pretty easy should we ever have to. I figure I'm good for at least 5 years with this Odyssey....we have great luck with them :)

FINALLY finished these damn things with their speaker grilles. And I found that the magnets weren't sticking so well in some places so I got my mega hot glue gun out and put them on that way. The panels turned out cool but I should have done aluminum.

Speaker grilles are kind of meh but they accomplished what I wanted....just a plain grill that looks kind of retro.

So much to do and I'm fiddling around with floor mats. Not the best use of time.

I use this material for mats in our 70 series trucks....works really well. I've even got fancy OEM twist lock hold downs for them.

Didn't get nearly enough done today but I was able to get my intake into some couplers and tubing to get it set in place. Looks like it will fit pretty well. We'll make some mounts on Monday so it's secure and we can move on to some other stuff. Kind of a bummer with the sensor port on top of the intake outlet. Not sure what I'll do there. Maybe a nice block off plate. A lot of little stuff came in....silicone couplers for the intercooler and the piping for it. I want to get the radiator installed, get the coolant hoses on, get the shroud installed and then start with intercooler piping.

Put my new hood insulator on....so nice. Glad these are still available. I probably should have painted the underside of the exposed metal on the hood. Could have sprayed some Raptor on it too I suppose. Not sure it bothers me that much. Maybe if the truck gets painted one day I'll make it all pretty.

These Scheelmann seats are not for a 60(going in an 80) but they're so cool I wanted to show them off a little more. I've been playing around with doing a set of Scheelmanns for a 60.....I've got a few ideas :)

Good day today for the most part....kind of got bogged down with a few things. Started by powder coating this stuff....

Went with gold for the centers and somehow the outers were black chrome. The gold was awful and the black chrome looked dumb. Finished with this which looks really cool. Satin black outer, black chrome center.

Calipers are on, new brake hoses in, knuckles good for a long while. Check all that off the list.

70 series 1HZ upper hose....splt it and installed this adapter to run my aftermarket gauge's temp sender. I've done it this way on a few of my other trucks and it's worked really well.

Dialing in my hood strut kit(well, will be a kit at some point).....I'm making some adjustments on where the ball stud is mounted to get max opening without hitting the wipers. Need to adjust the weight of the struts as well....these are 120# and I think they're a bit light for how these are mounted.

No clearance issues, completely bolt on. Should be a nice setup.

Started the morning off by installing a boost compensator on our injection pump.....pretty straightforward job. These injection pumps are such a cool piece of work.

With the boost compensator on the injection pump, we were able to set timing and start the assembly process of the lines and all that good stuff.

All buttoned up.....even the belts are on for the alt and AC.

Really nice looking

I worked on this bracket today.......pretty happy with it. Really solid mount. We've got a hood that stays open by itself and latches now :)

That's fluid in those......we've got brakes and a clutch. Still a ways to go though before we get to use them :(

Tomorrow is going to be gas pedal day. Not looking forward to it. Going to use a pedal from a 70 series I think. I have a 62 pedal, a 70 series pedal and probably an 80 pedal. 70 series pedal will take a little work to get in there but I like it.

I cut the 90* end off the 60 pedal to see how things looked....maybe I'll add the upper part on from another pedal. Anyway you slice it up, it will take some work.

Going to use a brand new LHD 70 series throttle cable.....ordered that a while ago.

20220322_183424.jpg

Speaking of 70 series parts.....popped these in tonight. My OEM visors weren't so bad so I'll keep them stashed away for a rainy day. These move a lot easier....kind of felt like the original ones were going to give up the ghost at any time.

We'll be getting the radiator, fan, fan clutch and shroud dialed in tomorrow as well. This Champion is a really nice piece. Really impressed with it the more and more I look at it. Should have had them not drill the flanges for the shroud.....holes don't really line up but that's no big deal. Ideally tomorrow we get all this installed and buttoned up so water can go in. We may be able to fire this thing up by week's end if all goes well :)

Part numbers for the visors.....I have been using Ra.parts for a while now.....insanely fast shipping and usually the best pricing.

You'll have to remove your OEM pivot and swap them into the new ones.

Got into my pedal project today......had to rob the pedal bracket off a 79 series we are building. I forgot to buy one with the throttle cable. Bracket holds the cable for the hand throttle as well as creates a soft stop for the pedal return.

HZ throttle cable.....and the stolen bracket.

Made a little template to help get the holes in the firewall just right as it was a bit of an awkward angle to drill and mark.....plus I really didn't want to screw up my firewall. This should have been done during mockup. Oversight for sure.

Not only is it nice to have a 79 in the shop to steal parts from but it's nice to use for reference. Here's how the throttle cable is from the factory.

This is how mine turned out. I think I'll build a little backing plate for this with a couple of welded nuts on it. Might look a little more finished.
20220323_143543.jpg

I've been using these drill bits.....saw @wngrog post a pic of them and ran out to get some(well, ordered on Amazon). They're really nice AND they are mine and only mine....not community drill bits in the shop. Ha.

I've built plenty of pedals and I don't look forward to any of it. Sometimes it's an hour, sometimes it's a day. Or more. Been pretty lucky lately with the ones I've done and today this one ended up being pretty straightforward. I used the bottom half of the 60 pedal and combined that with the top of an 80 pedal we had from another project(looks like I stole the hand throttle bracket from it). It's not as pretty as I usually like them to be but it works, it's strong and it will do the job and will look fine once it's black.

Underside of the dash where the throttle goes and the bracket gets placed...

20220323_145731.jpg

I had to stack the 80 pedal's top half on the 60's base...I would have preferred to butt them together with a sleeve and weld but it wasn't in the cards and I ran out of interest in crawling around under the dash. This will be plenty strong.
20220323_164634.jpg

I'm sure there is some kind of science or engineering to designing pedals, none of which I know much about, but in order to get the throw of the pedal where I wanted it, I ended up adding this pedal stop on the underside of the pedal pad area....this will contact the pedal stop bolt. Looks like there was about 1/2" of space between the bolt and the bottom of the stock pedal. Pedal height is nice, full travel on the injection pump.....all looks good.

20220323_164613.jpg

And now we have 3 working pedals.......and no more crawling around under the dash.
20220323_165559.jpg

Need to add a couple throttle cable supports and we'll call this job done and good for a long time.....
20220323_145551.jpg

Tomorrow fuel filter goes in, radiator/shroud/fan, Friday steering gets buttoned up which means..........time to fire up.
