I like the magnet idea for the rear cargo panels, can you elaborate on how you did it and show us the back?

I fully plan to show that.....just more focused on the front half of the truck right now....engine is going in tomorrow I think :)

Tackled the hood yesterday....300k miles of dirt. We have a new 'intern' in the shop so this was his project.

I've decided to keep it simple.....sound deaden it and run a new factory hood insulator. Most of my inner brace was separated so we glued that back on. We use 3M Windshield Adhesive....known as 'Black Death' around the shop. You do not want it on your skin. The intern is probably understanding that today. Ha.

So much dirt and dust in this thing

So much grime

Finally clean

Second Skin Damplifier Pro in the 'windows'. Intern took it a little to seriously when I told him to "cut it to fit in the windows". All in all a good job....I've had some guys not even make it this far :(

Worked on the lower steering shaft....new u-joint....NAPA part. There was some play in mine so I wanted it replaced. 1.2L Corolla driveshaft u-joint.....I find that funny. Cleaned the splines, greased, new boot.

It was pretty beat

Cleaned up nice

Going to be as good as new I think with the Redhead box in there.

I may be a tiny bit biased but I'd say this looks just a little better than when we started :)

Made my dog a collar....maybe an Etsy store is my next move :)

Gradually getting the low hanging fruit stuff done in the engine compartment.....

Clutch slave moves to the drivers side of the bellhousing on this setup.....we used a slave for the h55(91 HZJ73 is what I ordered most of my parts for). I used a rubber clutch line for the H55 setup. Custom hard line to a new FJ60 clutch master.

Used a mount for a heat shield to mount a bracket that holds the clutch line.

New master installed...will work on getting lines hooked up tomorrow. Normally I would build all new copper lines so everything looks the same and is new but trying to be a little more realistic on this build. The factory ones cleaned up and look good.

New washer reservoir.....going to start building hood strut kit I think. I build them for the 70s and I think I can use some of the parts from those for this truck. Hope to have a nice bolt on kit for people who want something like that.

Intake elbow on....starting to wrap my head around how the intercooler will be plumbed.

20220307_174019.jpeg

Ready to get a battery in the truck so we can start laying out AC and intercooler piping. SUPER impressed with this stainless trays.com battery tray. Really really nice. Going to leave it unfinished I think.

Odyssey PC1500 going in.....my local supplier ran out today. Odysseys have been tough to get. He said a boat manufacturer he supplies bought 13 for a boat they're building :)

Almost finished up my rear side panels......I like them a whole lot BUT far too much time(and $) in them. Story of my life. Need to mount the speaker grilles.....then I can be finally done with them.

I used these magnets.....made with Chinesium and magnet stuff. 1.25" diameter, maybe an 1/8" thick. Pretty strong stuff. Super Strong according to the box. :)
20220308_113717.jpg

Some of the areas where the clips were weren't completely flat so I added some steel to level them out. Double stick tape holds that on.
20220308_113734.jpg

Magnets in position.....double stick tape removed and ready for the panel to be placed in position.
20220308_113722.jpg

Panel gets installed.....double stick tape sticks to panel....now panel can come on and off. As long as double stick tape holds, all will be good.

Yesterday we were able to mount the vacuum reservoir for the brake booster. Nice and tucked into a corner of the engine compartment. I'll route the pump to reservoir line in the fender to reduce hoses in the engine compartment. I went with an OEM 70 series reservoir.....nice and compact and zero plastic on it. A lot of the universal vacuum reservoirs are big and have a lot of plastic crap on them.

What better way to break in a new kid starting in the shop......knuckles!

Everything seemed to be OK up front....recent grease on the right side.....pads/rotors looked new-ish.....no real issues. We'll do some cleaning and install new stuff where we need to.

After cleaning things up in the parts washer, we found a few cracks in one of the birfs....

Lots of cleaning and blasting today on knuckle stuff. Trying to not go overboard with the plating and all that.

We really like this ultrasonic cleaner for small bolts and stuff....I think after I took this pic we ended up just putting the entire swivel housing in the tank instead of the bucket. We keep the parts in buckets and bins so we don't dirty up the tank. Works really well if it's small stuff. I think this tank was $250....one of the best $250 I've spent in a good long time.
20220310_151138.jpg

These should be as good as new once we put down some powdercoat on them.
20220310_145410.jpg

Ran some heater hoses.....I had one for a 70 series(out from heater) and it fit perfectly. The heater inlet hose is generic stuff.

20220310_172635.jpg

New 555 tie rods went in today. I should be painting all of the suspension and steering stuff but not so interested in going down that road. I think I'm going to paint the rod ends so they don't rust.

Intercooler day today.....well, the start of it. Lot's of work still to come but first things first, get that thing mounted.

How many 60 series have AMG parts on them? Not sure but this one does :)

AMG bracket was from an exhaust I think....we have a bunch of them. Used that for the foundation to our lower IC support.

Pretty simple setup. We'll build the upper/hood latch support on Monday....then maybe start on some piping but I kind of want to get some parts in before we start with the pipes. Radiator, shroud, battery......lots of stuff to get in there. Most likely I'll get the holes cut in the support next week and work on piping up to them.

Love that grey bedliner.

Love that grey bedliner.
It was supposed to go in my little flats boat but it seemed like too much work :) Looks better in the 60. Raptor is such easy stuff to use....hard to get it wrong.
