New bellhousing courtesy of ra.parts....these guys are amazing and have great prices. Can't get all the stuff from them but what they can get is very well priced.

Have you swapped the input shaft out to the fine spline one?

Nice to see all the familiar steps from my own build. Will follow along for the finish. Looking good. :)

The transfer case was pretty disgusting on this truck.....had a tough time cleaning it with our heated power washer. Had to break out the Easy Off.....that melted the grime right off.

We tore the case down and got it into the blast cabinets....these needed dry blasting first before vapor. The vapor blasting provides such a smooth and polished surface....very sensitive to pressures too so I'm still learning what works best. This was pretty good. Could have spent more time in the dry blast cabinet first I think but this is fine for a transfer case. They are also drying in these pics....so they look a little splotchy and dark.

Easy Off? Maybe thatll work on my engine bay @TRAIL TAILOR :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

That's happening today :)

You must have a REALLY dirty engine bay. Easy Off is always the last resort for us :)
Somone used some sort of "protector" application... and I wanna have the bay repainted if dsnt come clean

It Easy Off gets on it, you'll be repainting for sure :)

Got the input shaft swap done today. We had made a few tools for 4 speed rebuilds which we used on this so it made it pretty simple with the 5th gear needing to be removed being the only real difference. Would not be a fun job without the right tools.

Since I started this project, I have been trying to figure out what to do with the rear cargo area panels. My left one was broken and once I saw how they mounted the speakers, I figured I was going to do new ones. Usually not a big deal but wow these got me. I have a ton of hours in them and probably will have a ton of money in them. They'll be cool though :)

Usually we do aluminum panels that can be screwed in. I like coating them with Raptor Liner. Kind of a little too industrial for this truck. My interior guy said to use some kind of waterproof fiber board you can get at Home Depot. Got some of that but it was way too hard to cut and fit the OEM clips to(we used the old panels for templates). So since that sucked, I figured I'd use 3/16" plywood. That was a failure. Too thick. Back to the weird waterproof board. None of my clips were lining up(couldn't cut the board cleanly) so I came up with a great idea to use magnets. I'm about $50 into magnets now. Ha.

The only thing I'm proud of is my speaker mounts....this maxed out my stereo skill set :) Running some JBL GTO 6x9s....really like these speakers. I'll tidy these up this week....paint, some sound deadener maybe. I have some Boom Mat speaker baffles to install once they go in for final. Seems like a good idea. I use them on the 70 front doors and they really seem to help.

Here's what I started with.....speakers were mounted really poorly. I don't really remember if they worked or not....old wire, stupid mounts, lots of hack...more hack than usual stereo stuff.
20220126_111427_1.jpeg

And here is what I finally came up with....these will have magnets on the backside roughly in the area where the factory clips are. They seem to hold well....I'm afraid they'll rattle but I think I can put a layer of foam on them between the panel and the metal of the body. I should have just used the OEM panels and stopped the madness. I'm not a stereo guy and not really an interior guy.....I like designing them and picking materials to do them in but dealing with wood, fabric, glues....not my thing :(

This is where I'm headed with these panels....

Going to use 60s door panel material, some vinyl on the top and the carpet for the rear tailgate panel on the bottom. So kind of like OEM just way better. The speaker grilles will be mounted to the panels so when they get pulled off, the grilles come with. Hope it all works as planned in my head......often times they don't. Ha.

Interior thought my idea(not really my idea....my lead tech's idea) was a pretty good one to hold them on. Made me feel a little better.

Spent some time on the transfer case......tapped and plugged the unused hole and snapped in the 5th gear oiler......mounted that part of the case to the trans. Ran into an issue with the idler shaft....our kit was for a 38mm.....we have 34mm parts coming tomorrow. Cruiser Outfitters to the rescue.

While we are waiting on the idler shaft and parts.....we started putting the motor back together. Going to be a pretty one :)

After a light 320 grit sand and wipe down, we were able to paint the frame today.......we used POR15 Top Coat in chassis black aerosol. Some of the nicest paint I have ever used. Great coverage, great color. It's good on prepped bare metal or previously painted surfaces. UV stable too.

As these projects usually go.....once one part starts looking good, the other stuff looks bad. Made an executive decision today to spray the engine compartment. So I pulled the stuff off the firewall and started prepping and cleaning. Going to try something I've been thinking about for a while. Not sure I'll like it but I think it will look pretty cool.

Motor is still coming together.....had to drill a HUGE hole in the side of the block for the oil return.....almost an inch thick in this spot. Not the easiest hole to drill.....3/8 NPT, 7/8" hole. Yikes.

And........this afternoon.

20220225_175237.jpeg

Sprayed the engine compartment with Raptor liner.....mixed with a light grey pigment. We spray a lot of it....it never fails to impress. Really really happy with this setup. A little worried about dirt and cleaning it but it cleans up nice on everything else that has it so it should be good here.

We spray with their "pro" gun....it allows for a very fine texture which is my favorite. I didn't thin this out which we normally do. I think you can thin it down 10%.

I used foil tape to seal up holes that I don't think we'll use....if we need to use them, easy to open them up.

Hard to spray this color because it was really light on the white. I used 2 bottles.....had about a 1/4 bottle left.

The radiator support is really nice. Huge improvement. You could spray Raptor on garbage and it would look nice :)

Need to finish my heat shield work.....I made a last minute decision to just finish the whole side of the firewall in heat shield. I think it will look best that way. Certainly won't need that much.

Great work!
Thanks. It's certainly not the project I should be working on.....some of our 70 series truck builds need some attention :)

This will be a neat truck.....really looking forward to wrapping it up.

Removed the evaporator box to put in a new evaporator in it....pretty much what I was expecting....maybe a little better. Forgot about getting a new expansion valve and pressure switch so got those coming for tomorrow. Nice when Toyota has stuff in stock :)

I wanted to remove the evaporator to put a new core in along with a expansion valve and pressure switch....I'll do that tomorrow. Took out the blower motor and cleaned all of that...added new foam to the doors.

Not as bad as some of them I've seen....sure will be nice to have all new stuff for the AC.
