We’ve been using wood to double as a cutting board. This my friends 80 cooking in Baja last week. He’s got a CNC machine set up now to use the original clips.

Our wheeling is mostly desert. Think Baja 1000 fast desert running. 4” lifts, 35 extra gallons of gas under neath, all the same cars with spare parts. The gold truck just put in new Icon Suspension. It’s a dream ride over rough roads. Another friend totaled his rig last year, the kitchen in the back was fine. LOL

Check Lost Industries on Instagram. He has a composite tailgate cover that's black. It's really nice quality and holes are all pre-drilled.

I made a fake ass wagongear tailgate lid a while ago and its been good for dragging pretty much anything across it for the past 5 years. Its not hard to take a piece of HDPE and cut out the carpet profile if you wanted to and if you can learn to use some open source 2D CAD software you could get a dxf to a shop to cut out for you. Probably order from a HDPE distributor that way.

Funny timing for this thread to pop up. I just started messing with my tailgate this week. With a 30"x60" sheet of baltic birch ply in the basement, I had what I needed. It'll be the first step to a platform/ drawer system. It's not going to look like Wesleypalms amazing setup but it should serve it's purpose.

Can anyone recommend a way to attach a nut or anchor to the factory holes that the plastic tabs pop into? I'm considering a drywall anchor but I I'd like to know what other people have had work successfully.

Use nutserts in the factory holes and then use machine screws through the plywood. Can’t remember if the factory holes are square or round but regardless you might need to drill them out.

Yes sir, that is what I need. Thank you. Holes are about 1/4" round. Anyone want to loan out a nutsert tool?

I used 6mm nutserts and countersunk screws. The clip holes are round and will need to be opened up some to get the inserts fitted. These photos were taken a few minutes ago so you are looking at a ~17 year old panel.
