Don’t be shy about your 70s love. Bestcarweb in Japan just called the 70 the greatest SUV ever made. They are in a frenzy for them in Japan! And the prices for used and vintage 70s are spiraling up and up there!
That funny, I was in Aspen recently and while I don't see any 70's, there were tons of restored vintage defenders everywhere. The old school square style SUV must be the thing now.

We know the Landcruiser FJ is going to be released in Japan in December of this year, so maybe that model will fill the void at Tahara. It is going to potentially be a high volume product. We just do not know if it will be sold outside of Japan to know just how many units they will require. It might not fit a US profile but there are many places it will. It is a Suzuki Jimney rival and those sell very well in the EU.

This econo-box LC will be outsourced to either Thailand manufacture or Daihatsu manufacture.

It'll be a wagon version of this thing!

I read about the Fortuner being a "kit" that is assembled in Thailand or something like that. I'm not sure how that works exactly, but is that how those would work? I don't really know anything about how that process is done.

If it's a Toyota version sized like a Jimny - I think it's still a really great idea. I'd love to be able to just buy a regular Jimny as a fun weekend toy. Probably wouldn't put the Land Cruiser name on it though. I think maybe something simple like "Toyota Trailsport" or bring back "Funcruiser" nameplate.

I've read rumors of Jeep working on a mini wrangler model. Could be a rebirth of the mini 4x4 segment if they really do come back.

Bumping this up. Have more info?

Sorry, just catching up on this thread. Details on the GX550 event here:

I’ll be around a handful of early production (not prototype) LC250’s this week. What photos would you like?

I’ve got a bunch of things I want to look at closely based on inconsistencies in the dozens of prototypes and pre-production models they had floating around the US. I don’t expect any major changes but head unit display, drive calibration and certainly finishes have changed.

Does the 1958 have a subwoofer? Saw a few pre-production vehicles that don’t, but the more recent ones do.

What’s up with the inconsistencies on the ceiling mounted rear AC vents? I’ve seen some models of both GX/LC with and without them. Hoping this isn’t dependent on trim level because I have yet to see them in an OT or OT+

Undercarriage pics (with and without front skid plates) that show the front diff setup and pictures of OEM skid plate options (fronts and gas tank).

Some GREAT in-depth technical analysis here...

Great news - The front differential mounting looks to be much improved over the 120/150. It now looks more robust IMHO.

As a lighting nerd - close up's of the LED headlight projector array, please.
Also - undercarriage spare location.

To be clear, you’re talking 2nd row ceiling AC vents?

I would like an idea of how much room the battery takes up and how it would be changed if needed. I have never owned a hybrid, but I would want the new LC to last 30 years.

Has Toyota given an official word on how long the hybrid batteries will last?

Hybrid-specific components are covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, and the hybrid battery pack has a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty.
So probably 150,001 miles before it dies.

There has been lot of experience with Toyota hybrid batteries. I think it is safe to say they will last well beyond the warranty.

Referring to Toyota and their engineering prowess on hybrids as it'll apply to the 2024 Land Cruiser:
"They have proven that hybrid technology and hybrid batteries will survive the life of the vehicle." - Kurt Williams

So, nothing to worry about, AlohaJen, although, I think most of the Land Cruisers you have and have had are already well beyond Toyota's original "life of the vehicle". I'm sure it'll be fine though.

Hybrid vehicles do not like to sit. They need exercise.
