Can someone get a detail picture of the front wheel and brake caliper? Trying to see the clearance for 17" wheels.
Folks have confirmed that certain brands of 17" will fit over the 300 series calipers, so they should fix on the GX and LC.

I think a base T4 would be the choice of 70%+. Would be $3500 less than the hybrid (based on tundra pricing). That would make it the best off-road capable model. And it should still be pretty decent on the highway for people who don't need to tow anything. It's not for me. But I think it would be a good option for a lot of buyers.

They're putting a 160hp 4cyl in it in lots of markets.

And I think that would be absurd for that sized truck. The Turbos are there to compensate for the 4.

So let me understand, and correct me if I’m wrong.

A Vehicle similar in size and weight approximately that of a 4runner in 2023…. That gets 300plus Horsepower and More than 450 Ft lbs of Torque is insufficient……..

Because it’s cylinders equal that of a number 4

?

Oddly enough there are some 4 cyl turbo diesel engines that obtain similar numbers with no critics

Is it the petrol or is it the past 4 cyl engines that give this new Land Cruiser a bad name from the get go.

Not sarcastic, just asking.

Or is it the Size of the vehicle….

Because there are numerous Trucks much larger that are sufficient, with similar numbers.

The context was a basic 4 without TT.

The LC300 comes with a 1GR. It's probably the same weight and has the same peak hp, but the T4 has a lot more power in the mid range. It would drive better than the GRJ300. Significantly better than the current 4Runner as well. Doesn't sound that absurd to me.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2.4 I4 turbo end up as an option on some global 300s, sometime during its life cycle to replace the 1GR.

They will need a workhorse base engine for people who don't want the twin 6 and to keep prices low for base versions.

In the Middle East for example, they discontinued the V8 4.5 1VD engine for MY2024 on the 70 and replaced it with with the 4cyl 2.8 1GD ( that produces more hp and torque in stock form than the v8 in the 70 ).

*They will still sell the v8 VDJ7x diesel in Australia alongside the GDJ7x for the time being.

and also with the Prado 250 coming with 4 cylinder engines.
Getting people used to the idea of a 4cyl LC in the 250/70x then drop one in the 300, it could work.

As @Jetboy said that engine would probably make it even better to drive than the 1GR.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see a variant of the 2.4 I4 turbo replace the 1GR entirely even on the 70 series later this decade. It will depend on emission/fuel efficiency regulations in the Middle East mainly to see how long they can keep the 1GR going. These are getting stricter in the Middle East compared to previous years.

I think someone was asking for rotor clearance pictures. Couldn’t get close to the 250 but here was the best I could get from the GX. Pretty tight for a 17” rim. For the hassle of trying to find that right rim, I think your better off sticking with an 18” on 35’s. I ran this on my 80 for years and they got scuffed up but did just fine. That is IF you can fit 35's under either. It looked like it would clear of but no idea how 35's would stuff. It would be interesting to know if the cruiser outfitter guys have tried. Didn't get a chance to talk to them.

460 vs 550
Man, I'm trying really hard to like the GX of even the LC but so far, just not a fan and up close and personal didn't help much here. No interest here at all on the 250 and don't ever see getting one, about every angle just kept looking like a stretched, failed FJ the more I did laps around it trying to find something that stood out. Nothing... Note to Toyota, please give up on the FJ retro thing unless you can bring back a true solid axle FJ style jeep. It just isn't working.
Me and the wifey went back by the Lexus booth 3 times and I couldn't get her, or myself for that matter, to get excited about the 550. I have said it before and I believe it more than ever, I think Toyota intended the 250/ GX to be the 4R replacement and made a last minute decision to insert the LC in the mix. It feels small(not in a good way, as in low to the ground and, carish), cheap, the 550 interior dash and console was very plain and meh and felt really flat and bronco/ Wranger feeling. It might have felt and looked much better if you could turn the ignition on but overall it was plain and boring, although the fit and finish was nicer. I could see the front and underside cameras being nice when offroad as the middle dash screen was quite large.
I have never been a big fan of the 460 and it might have been slightly unfair that the 460 @ the expo looked to have a small lift but I think it won out on the 550, even though I think the downsize on the LC is a win, the cheapness and initial feel, is not. The 460 just looked and felt better inside and out(compared to a LC as I know them). It is also probably quite unfair there are so many decked out vehicles at the expo and it made the OEM vehicles quite meh. The upside is there is still time to grab a white on white 460 at a decent price... Maybe it's time to go test drive one. I would like to see a luxury+ 550 though, even if it does have 22's lol.
Neither the 550 or the 250 looked or felt like something I would take far off the beaten path on a Colorado FR and feel comfortable about the thought of getting back out in one piece, but in all fairness I do own the best, and last true LC ever made on 37's so it is bit unfair to compare either. Sorry, even though I didn't get to drive one, it just didn't even feel like a LC. I can't imagine why anyone would want a plain 1958 model, It just doesn't make sense to me. There is still time to come through on a fully loaded decked out GX/ 250 Toyota, just don't think your quite there yet.

Millennials.

Doesn't even know the vents are a throwback to the 6x/7x series trucks.

I'm so done with these influencers. Scourge on this earth.
She's not a millennial. She's under 25 afaik. She also wrenches and has pretty decent content on her channel. But I agree, we should discourage such abhorrent behavior! Such a scourge on humanity!

That 1st edition

Very nice

Yet the cost!

I’ll be happy if I can get the funds together for the 1958 and some minor extras.

Imagine a reveal where Toyota didn't have all the influencers flown to Utah or any of that marketing. No warning. A dealer meeting with nondisclosure about 90 days ahead and public release as they started hitting dealer lots. Could save a bunch of money and probably have resulted in a much bigger media frenzy and had vehicles on the ground for people to go see and buy right away. I'd love to see that type of release instead of the drawn out slow trickle approach. And we wouldn't have to get info filtered through the insufferable youtube personalities.

Careful, you are going to throw the 250 fanboys into a rage with that kind of blasphemy. I’ve already read their predictions that the 250 is superior to the 200 and 300 series trucks, that prices are going to tank on 200’s because
the 250 is better but cheaper, that the hybrid 4 banger will be more reliable, more desirable, and better off road…etc., etc. All bold predictions for the new Prado! We shall see.

Insufferable. Perfect. I was trying to find the correct word.

Man, were ya reading and seeing that!

The 200 series is a Tank.

The 250 (50 more! 🥴) is a Great looking tool for Overlanding.

Yet the 200 is by far superior overall and way over built.

I like the 250 and seriously contemplating one…

Yet give me Both in front of me, zero miles with Factory warranty (5.7 Valve spring)

I’ll choose the 200

LOL at least she limited the time the camera was focused on her instead what was being talked about. That's very rare these days.

I'd object to all these narcissistic selfie v bloggers reading approved scripts being rounded up on moral grounds, but not too loudly.

All good, my opinion doesn't mean much and it's just first impressions and it's obvious they had a pre-production model there.

The first 5 minutes of this video do a good job comparing the two and even a quick shot of the LX that was there. Too bad he didn't show the white interior on the 460 tho... Would have been nice if he also jumped in the LX. That interior, dash and console was a crazy luxury feel, but I jumped in it right after the 550 and maybe why it felt so much more Land Cruiser to me. Too bad they didn't get the AAP lift on the 550 before getting it over to CO. It might have helped it's case some IMO.
No desire to go too far offroad in one here for quite a while so I may still be in on the 550 with a AAP lift, Luxury+ and 35" muds stuck on their 22's LOL.

Video shows much different for both in person than on video tho IMO.
550 looks better on video
550 dash is way flat in person and very bland, but shows better on video
550 made a few of the 200's look better to me @ the show, none were in stock form tho
460 looks way better in person and doesn't show well on video, still think it looked better inside and out than the 550 :meh:

Fwiw, there is not currently a AAP suspension lift for the GX550.
