Fwiw, there is not currently a AAP suspension lift for the GX550.
Kurt, is the LX you guys are testing AAP lift equipped? If so do you see it transitioning to the GX/ LC easily from what you have seen?

On a side note for a little clarification on my impressions. The more I thought about it there are possibly people new to the LC and I don't want to steer them wrong. If you have ever owned a Toyota you will know they are a little more overbuild than other brands. If you haven't been to a recent Overland Expo, the LC/ GX are only a handful of front and center displayed vehicles that are sub 6 figures. I already mentioned it but it isn't fair to compare 2 vehicles with a rough mid $50K price point. It is crazy to think that is the same entry level pricing they had nearly 30 years ago with the 80 series. Pretty good value when you think about it. I just wish with the body on frame still alive they would have went more SUV and less station wagon... Plenty of 60 series at the show and I saw little to no resemblance IMO. What's wrong with a 2020 LC with it's own identity.... Why does it have to be retro again. Maybe I missed the message and it was 60 series inspired and nothing more.

For the off pavement comments, again, a seemingly pretty well equipped capable vehicle when you offer AWD @ mid 27MPG numbers, center and rear locker, EKDSS or front electric sway disconnects and crawl control at that price. My issue is I wouldn't enjoy taking either on a expert or even mid range off road trail the way they are offered. I'm sure with the right recovery gear they would do well, it's just the thought of ripping off bumpers, body damage and even drivetrain damage by the time you leave. It's cool they offer sliders on the LC but they looked lightweight and not sure I would want to be dragging them across boulders. A little more effort on better clearance, approach and departure angles would have went a long way. I would prefer to drive over and around obstacles apposed to dragging over them.

Overall good impressions, just not blown away and excited, yet...

If the sliders won't take the truck's weight then they are just steps for the grandkids.

Lifted, but not AAP. The only AAP suspension kit at current is the GX460. Suspension kits are going to be easy to install on the 250/550!

The pictures oakleyguy posted earlier in this thread looked like they are solid, frame mounted sliders. They are plate standoffs, vs Tubular, but the frame isn’t inset too far. I’d like to look closer at them, but from what I’m seeing they look ok. Depends on the price of them as an accessory, whether it’s worth getting them or aftermarket.

Correct, they are frame mounted.

I would call these light-medium duty sliders. You can likely jack the truck up without issue, but I would not want to depend on them when dropping a fully loaded truck (7000#+) down on a rock or boulder.

Edit:
Adding further, there are six grade 4T or 5T bolts attaching the slider to the frame rail.

Depending on them when dropping a fully loaded truck down on a rock or boulder is kinda the point. You may need new sliders but the truck is expected to be fine.

Looking forward to the aftermarket for these 250s. While imo, that bumper is a little oversized, it really gives it an aggressive look. Also I think this is the first one in white I've seen, I like it.

Pulled a couple screen shots from this video.

Looking good in white; for some reason this color is giving me Isuzu Trooper vibes…

concur, actually like it better in white and look forward to seeing it in other colorways.

I think you are both right. We’ve only seen a limiting amount of colors. I think the blue and the yellow are a bit polarizing (I like the yellow and dislike the blue and hate the light gray roof on both) . I do love the darker gray though and the white is equally good looking on the vehicle.

Is that bumper a factory option?! Classic style bumper actually looks really great on it, the classic bumpers sometimes don’t fit the lines on newer vehicles.

Getting people used to the idea of a 4cyl LC in the 250/70x then drop one in the 300, it could work.

As @Jetboy said that engine would probably make it even better to drive than the 1GR.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see a variant of the 2.4 I4 turbo replace the 1GR entirely even on the 70 series later this decade. It will depend on emission/fuel efficiency regulations in the Middle East mainly to see how long they can keep the 1GR going. These are getting stricter in the Middle East compared to previous years.

Brown, is this new engine available someplace in the ME we don’t know about? Have you driven it?

The 1GR is a reliability machine as in get me back alive. It’s going to take awhile for the new 4 cyl T to put together a track record to rival the old V6, before we replace it, no? Toyota has already backed off 27 mpg. What else might they back off? Let’s at least drive the thing before we start replacing legendary Toyota engines, no?

We need independent testing, empirical data to construct a track record. We must get ahold of one of these US spec 250s 2.4L 4 cyls and spend a month testing it at the Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc on the Cap d’Antibes all expenses paid by our Japanese pals. You game? Are you into the influencer life style? The Euro/ME channel!

[BTW: No go on homologating/registering a 2024 FJ70 in France. There goes my trip down to Doha!]

less than 1% of these will ever see more than a dirt road.....super hard core heavy sliders would be overkill

i'm sure the aftermarket will fill the void

I agree with your views we are very familiar with the 1GR. What's funny is that I view the 1GR as modern and new compared to to the legendary 1fz-fe.

I actually prefer the torque of the 1fz-fe on the lc100 over the 1GR but the 1GR in the 300 thanks to the weight loss in the 300 does pretty well vs 1gr in 200.
So I imagine the newer engine (if we are looking at figures would be better performance wise) ofcourse reliability who knows.

After the discontinuation of the legendary 1fz-fe, I can handle the 1gr going out of production ( when the time for that comes)

I would bet they already have 300s running that engine for test purposes.
Still no guarantee though that it would ever be available on a 300.
They could just choose to offer a detuned v35a instead on the basic versions like the GX version or the base Tundra.

At least the older round AC vents matched the round gauges. They are an eyesore that stick out in a not good way with the new interior.
