Finished up the dash....springs go in tomorrow, tag goes on...it's possible I'll be driving it home for it's maiden voyage on major roads.....

---------------------------------------------------
How about a maiden voyage to Tallahassee? I'll buy lunch. :)

I was planning on driving it to DC this weekend but I think I'll do a few trips around here first...need to make sure all is well before I set out on the open road. Plus I need my AC to be working....we're still figuring that out.

Thanks Beno for the goodies........since the tag is on the truck, it deserves it's engine badge and cool oil cap. Guess it's now official....

I think the sticker and the cap are the perfect finishing touch....

ready to roll!

I've been so busy with work, I haven't had much time to play around with pictures of the truck...plus I've been having fun driving it. I need to get out and get some good ones of it.

So far all has been good....check that....it's been great. About 128 miles as of today(I have a very small commute...started driving it last Thursday). No real issues, just trying to get a feel for things, noises, etc. I've got a pretty good vibration in the chassis around 42-52mph...I'm thinking it's the Toyo M55 tires...I have read about some of those not being so round which is what it feels like to me....going to get those checked out tomorrow hopefully.

Filled up the tank....30 gallons. Nice capacity. Not so nice to fill up $$-wise.

Going to install a trailer hitch tomorrow. Need the hitch to be on so I can figure out where to mount the OEM rear bumper.

Really need to get my AC working....the vinyl seats are a bit warm..I'm curious to hear how it sounds with the windows up too.

Installed some OME stock height FZJ80 front springs....ride height is perfect now. Raised the truck 1" with those.

Bedliner next week maybe.

Now do you really need A/C in Central Florida? :D
In Southern Georgia we just crack the windows.

I need AC....not sure about the needs of others but I want it (my dog does too). 93 degrees, brutal humidity...starts in Apr/May, goes all the way until October. This truck is pretty windy inside too....much different than the FJ45 which has AC but I generally only use when it's raining.

It's going to be great with some ice cold AC in there. I'll get to listen to my fancy stereo.

I can't really tell, but do you have window tint? I don't have any on my 62 and it's an oven in there under the Florida sun.

No tint yet....that's on the list too BUT I will be running a 'clear' tint. Has about the same UV blockage as 40% tint.....according to my tint guys. I'm really anti-tint but this stuff, being clear-ish, is OK. Plus, we can do the windshield with it.....a good idea since that 70 series windshield is like the size of a billboard. We do a lot of windshields in cars this way and that really makes a significant difference when combined with standard tint on the other windows.

I will post up results for sure....

Not sure about the hood ornament... Do all 79s in the US have that? Looks like it belongs on a 1970's Corolla or a Cressida ;)

lol....I find myself staring at that "bean wearing a sombrero' when behind the wheel. I like it. From what I recall and I may be wrong, all the middle east spec trucks have the hood ornament and since this truck is a middle east truck, it has one. I'm sure somebody knows why the middle east spec trucks have them....would be interesting to know if there are any other place that have them. I know your Aussie trucks don't have them.

:) I think they have them in the Middle East because they can't resist adding bling to everything.

Maybe I should consider this stripe and wheel package....

If you listen closely you can feel the vibration from the 12 speaker sound system.
I wonder if those rims spin. :D

Check this one out, from Dubai.

Check this one out, from Dubai.

I kind of like .... keep reading..... the filler this guy made on the front side of the bed (on the Dubai crazy orange rig). The step is practical on the 79 bed, but you lose the body line. I am thinking about making something like that.
