My first project for 2025. I’m getting a little head start on it this week to get it in and get parts ordered.

Super nice lady contacted me about it. Local-ish. Was running like s***. Fully smogged and she took it to a local shop.

They of course had no idea how to work on a 60 so it just sat there for almost 6 years.

She ran into one of my customers (Mo Chikin) and he told her to call me.

Long story but she’s the second owner and has had it for 20+ years and wanted it to not die at that shop.

It’s up.

It cleaned up good. Rust is all really on the hood and roof. Looks super clean on the frame and lower body. Sitting outside like that is murder.

Right now it’s draining all the lacquered up fire out. It’s been draining quite a while so hopefully it was near full and the tank is not rusted out.

The rare visit from Red and I’m covered in gasoline and she starts squawking about the fumes and I’m going to fry my brain.

I sent them away

C’s are solid.

Gotta make a @cruisermatt list.

I managed to get the old tank out. Some jackass ran the exhaust in the way so it took some maneuvering. Gravity also helped

It’s a goner. I have a friend with a good tank we removed when we did his Long Range tank swap that I’m going to buy from him.

When I get tired of playing family tomorrow I’m going to get back into the engine bay and get a compression test on the motor. I began pulling stuff out today. I’m charging the battery overnight to use the starter for compression testing

You should check the VIN against the Toyota database. It might still have the open fuel tank recall (read: free fuel tank)
Do you have a link for this?

I’ve had a few guys try that here at the local dealers with no luck. The tank my buddy has is a recall tank. I know it is good unless he tossed it. I don’t think he did

Toyota is required by law to honor the recall. If it's an open recall for that VIN, they are required to provide you with a new tank.

You said in your own thread most places tell you to pack sand. Others local have been told to pack sand. If I did not have this tank in my back pocket I would possibly go down the path but honestly I just don’t have time to chase this s*** down being a one man band.

My 60 has an open case for a new tank. No toyota dealership near me will touch it. Some lame excuse about not having correct (nla) hoses. Closest one that will do it is out of state in Oregon.

Great Christmas gift, a new Tilda Bogue thread! Looks cool.. tank is nasty. Is there a list / plan or just get 'er running first?

Running first. I’m not sure the owner wants much more than that at first but it’s going to take quite a bit of work to do that properly.

I have a desmog Jim C carb on the shelf.

Planning on testing the compression before I tear it all down. If it’s showing solid numbers I’m going to strip it to the long block and build it back up with new parts.

Probably needs a clutch. Front tie rod ends are gone. There is no ebrake.

It could balloon on her quickly. I’m not sure that’s what she wants to happen.
