tried that a few different ways, seems to be working by disabling network connections in the xp instance right after loading before I touch tech stream. this allows me to keep wifi on (so I can keep spamming here everytime I hit a bump in the road )

I am not a strong tech user but I would like to get techstream up and running to be able to check AHC parameters. I bought the Amazon OBD interface and now looking for suggestions on the most stable/least expensive computer tablet whatever to complete the tool. I can’t use my work computer and I don’t currently own a personal computer. Anyone have a suggestion for me? Windows 10 64 bit perhaps? Thanks!

I purchased a $50 XP laptop and it is used for Techstream exclusively, never connected to the www. (internet)

Running the VM from the 1st post on this thread on an M2 Mac. I am able to see the miniVCI J2534 USB device but when I try and open Tech Stream I just get the "Cannot connect to VIM" error.

Any advice? There's so much information on this thread it's hard to figure out what is still relevant anymore.

I run Windows so not sure if this advise will help you but try the following -

Ensure you have enabled the USB in the VM to share from your actual OS.
Close the firmware update tool before you start Techstream.

Hopefully those should enable you the access TS with your USB.

Hello, i would recommend any modern laptop ( Heads up checking if it's able to run VM), just because you only need a virtual machine for running Windows XP and TechStream.

To clarify, the VM is part of the download from the first page. It stands for Virtual Machine. In this case, you run a standalone VM of WinXP to operate the TechStream app. Really any computer released in the last 10 years would likely work fine. I use a MacBook Air from 2014 for this purpose. Hope that helps.

It’s been a while since I’ve used this virtual machine but now when I try and use it, it’s asking for a key. The key in the notepad file has a million 1’s in it and doesn’t seem to work.

Any thoughts?

Everything was simple to install and figure out how to operate. No VM needed. Just use the 64 bit patch. I was able to see everything in all the ECUs and make sure there were no codes, no misfires and everything is in spec.
And tonight, after years of having the VSC and Traction Control lights on my dash in my 2003 Camry, I finally got rid of it! DTC C1336. Went into the VSC ECU, cleared the code, reset memory and did a calibration test. Only took a few minutes. The Techstream investment has already paid for itself.

Although this virtual machine version works great, it's quite slow in response. So is there anyway to get hold of this same version of techstream and install it directly on to Windows without having to have it inside a virtual machine?

Heads up about this version could be in some way not legal, the straight way only requires you pay a subscription, download/install and use for the intended/paid time.

Both would rule it out entirely. Pretty sure it only needs to be done in the VM though.
