hmm, having connectivity issues as well. Have an M1, and can get the UTM environment up and running, but also am likely having issues with usb to usbC. with one adapter, I get the environment "plink-plunk" sound when plugging / unplugging. With another adapter, no noise. Both show the mini-vci under usb devices, but neither can connect when attempting to run TS

ideas?

Thanks much for this post.

Just a tiny bit of disambiguation for others thickheaded like me. For those looking for the secondary launch option, use the one via the menuing system, IE Start -> Techstreatm -> Techstream. Once you change the connection method to MVCI, exit that Techstream. Then launch again using the desktop Techstream.
man, I just started reading back through the 74 pages of this thread, to find my exact problem, and your solution. So much thanks! I wish more information would get added to the first pinned thread, it would save so much time / grief / frustration

the exact selection is along the techstream main setup screen, and then 'set-up' ,then 'VIM select", then you will find a drop down menu with the mini-vci as an option.

TIS keeps asking me for the key and the key provided seems not working.

advice
any solutions?

@Slamd1958 , I purchased my cable from ebay last fall. the listing is no longer there but the item description was "MINI VCI for TOYOTA V12.10.019 Single Cable Support TIS OEM Diagnostic Software" sold by obd2diag. This cable and software is the 32 bit version only. As mentioned before I have struggled a number of times trying to get this cable/software to work on a couple of Windows machines, both Windows 10 OS and Windows 7 OS.

What did work for me was using my MacBook Pro touchbar machine. On this I used this thread to download the VirtualBox. This got me Techstream with a working Key. But the VirtualBox didn't have the correct driver for the cable I owned. I used the mini cd supplied with the cable to save the driver file to the desktop of my Mac. I have an LG usb cd/dvd drive. I dragged and dropped the driver file from the Mac desktop to the VirtualBox/Windows XP desktop. On VirtualBox/Windows I installed the driver for the cable and that ultimately worked.

I did have trouble getting the VitrtualBox and related Windows XP to recognize the MINI VCI cable. This may be due to my use of an Apple adapter since the MacBook Pro only has USB-C ports. Various times of relaunching Virtual Box and replugging in the cable and/or adapter eventually worked. For the life of me I don't know what combination is "right".

I have successfully done this twice now and have been able to read the AHC pressures before making any changes and after replacing fluid and rear springs. I'm happy to say my pressures are now much closer to spec and truck rides much differently.
that sounds awful...so it was just a random stroke of luck you gained connection?

any solutions?
When I have this issue, I uninstall the tool in the VM manager and reinstall. Usually works for me

Edit: make sure your network adapter is off in the VM or your Wi-Fi off in general. Decent rule of thumb when using any pirated programming.

Greetings,

It’s 2025, any recommendations on the most current Mini-VCI cable and program download for the Techstream software? Link on the 1st page says product sold out (sorry if this was discussed already).

Picked up a new-to-me ‘05 LX470. AHC is stuck in “N” height. L-H indicator lights flash/blink when trying to adjust. Otherwise, rides nice. Figured id start the troubleshooting by purchasing the software

This SUV is a totally different animal from my ‘02 Sequoia.

This is the VCI cable I use. However, I do not use the software that comes with it. For one, I don’t have a micro-CD drive and two, I simply don’t trust what some sh!thead on Amazon put on a disk. Use the VM that is supplied in this thread.

As for getting this to work correctly, make sure that your computer’s Wi-Fi is turned off, or that you disable network connections in the VM settings.
If you get prompted for a key, uninstall the Techstream program and reinstall it. Works every time for me.
If you run into issues while trying to connect to the vehicle, make sure that you have the correct VCI cable selected in the VM settings and the vehicle is running. Not sure on the vehicle running as a requirement, however, I can never seem to connect if it’s not.
For context, I run this VM on a 2014 MacBook Air A1465 model, with no issues most of the time. Any issues I run into are mentioned above.

Edit: I ran my Techstream setup on our 2018 Tundra at work today and did not need to start the vehicle for it to connect. So probably wrong on that point.

Appreciate the info, thanks! Just purchased the cable.
It was rather tedious flipping through over 70 pages for the latest consensus of this topic.

I know, I have thought about semi-hijacking the post and putting an updated walkthrough in so you don’t have to sift through 1000 posts.

I got mine up and running yesterday. Intel Mac with UTM and the standard amazon cable. The trick for me was to make sure the VM had the USB cable connecting, launching the app to test the USB connection and then launch Tech stream from the start menu. It will ask for a code and I chose cancel. Then, while that was open, I launched TS again from the desktop icon and it connected right away with no issues. I did go into setup when I first launched it and made sure it had the correct VIM selected and once I did those things I was connected to the LX.

I would like to say thanks to everyone for all the work to keep this solution running as time and tech move along.

When I connect to my 2020 GX460 the most recent year is 2018... Do I need to update Techstream to see more modern cars?

Hi Getco, Thanks so much for that fabulous tech stream workaround, I have it up n running on my MacBook Pro no issues... except one.

I am in Australia, and my LC200 is a 4.5 litre v8 diesel, the 1vd-ftv motor, which is what most of us have over here (diesel is huge in Australia). To use tech stream I need to set location to "other" to access the global tech stream version, which is part of the package you setup.

Trouble is the global version says the registration has expired... not sure why. I can get the US version working no problem, but that's the 3ur-fe petrol motor (I think that's the code), and it offers no other options.
Any thoughts on how I might get a patched global version of tech stream into the VB system?
Hey, did you get this sorted? Having the same issue. Cheers

2016 Rav4 LE non-smart key. Was able to program a key in techstream but it won't start the engine. Any ideas what the issue is? When I insert the new key into the ignition, security symbol on the dash stops blinking just like the master key. So no idea why it. doesn't start. Does the version of techstream used matter? Mine was 13.xxx

By “non-smart key,” do you mean a valet key and not a master key? If that is the case, that’s your problem. Whenever you reprogram, you have to do so with the master key.

He is the key/ECU guru of the forum, he may be able to further assist you.

I'm also running into his same issue - does anyone have a recommendation here? Trying to connect to an Australian Spec 1HD-FTE ecu.

Got it up and running but only using safe mode in the XP virtual box?

To my knowledge you can wipe the slave key and make it a master for all above 1998. 1998 is EEPROM 1999 may be EEPROM as well requiring manual reprograming or chip swapping.

You can usually get a copy of V18 on mini cd with the purchase of an Amazon Mini-VCI to USB cable… but that’s if you trust some random disc with some random software from some random shop on Amazon. The supplied method in this thread has allowed me to access everything and then some on Toyota models up to 2018, but likely beyond, I’ve just not needed to try past that.

Huge thanks, @getco for putting this all together! It fired up (almost - see below) first try for me, and now I can read the AHC parameters on my '02 LX in preparation for globe replacement. Brilliant!!

To make it clear - what @getco has generously done here is to provide **everything** you need (software-wise) to get Techstream up and running in his Virtual Machine. If you order an Amazon J1352 cable for $20 like me and it comes with a microCD or similar - you shouldn't need to use the CD, just the cable.

Two points I'd like to add:

- If you have an LX (like me), when you first try to "connect to Vehicle", it will probably come back with a small popup menu describing your truck as a "Toyota / Land Cruiser" of the correct year. This is a good sign - it means that the software is communicating properly and you are 99% of the way there. If you change "Toyota" to "Lexus" on this popup menu and choose "LX470", you will be shown all of the additional/appropriate sub-systems for your LX (such as AHC, etc.). This point was made somewhere back in the 1000+ entries in this thread, but I wanted to re-state it here.

- I am running on an older Windows 7 Laptop which is a 32-bit version of the operating system instead of the more modern 64-bit. If you are running Windows 7 and are not sure, click on Start -> ControlPanel -> System and Security -> System. The "System Type" heading midway down the page will either say "32-bit operating system" or "64-bit operating system".

If yours is a 64-bit operating system, use the VirtualBox link that @getco listed in his original post for Step #2.

If yours is a 32-bit operating system, then for your Step #2, go to the following link instead:

On the right side under "DOWNLOAD OPTIONS", click on the "WINDOWS EXECUTABLE" link (105 Mb) to download it. Then click on this downloaded executable per Step #3 in @getco's instructions and everything else will hopefully work fine with the VM he provided in Steps 4 and 5. It did so for me, it was just the 64-bit version of VirtualBox that was incompatible with my older tech.

Thanks again Getco for making this happen!

first .. thanks @getco for the awsome contribution ..

I have the US market version of the Techstream installed in Panasonic Toughbook W10 32bits .. and that's working perfectly. But I'm in pursuit of the General Market Teachstream in order to be able to connect it to my VDJ76 Cruiser ..

Is this version the only US version .. ?

thanks !!!!
