Spending time with daughter and just had nice walk to swimming pond to let dogs swim some. Wife’s ducks go to the front pond in morning when we open gate from pen and after dark the waddle back to pen so we can secure them from critters.

Were all family here as you can tell!

Reminds me of the ducks at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis that come down the elevator in the morning, spend the day in the courtyard fountain, then return to their rooftop abode every evening. Quite the sight.

Ya know in these times there are many far worse off then us so I’m thankful we have a roof over our heads!

So….the 42 year old single wide trailer which I hope to plow under in 6 weeks decided to throw little curve ball couple days ago.

Friday before the holiday weekend I woke up to luke warm shower. Walked outside to check the tank to see a mini Niagara Falls flowing from the tank. Called plumber who squeezed us in which were super lucky as remote as we are. He went on to tell me Obama changed everything and hot water tanks are wider now then before due to new regs.

He had to make some slight mods to the closet, ripping off the old door (in lower left corner of one of the pics) replace new tank. So yesterday I got to demonstrate my redneck carpentry skills!

Some insulating board, with plywood and plastic wrap and bam, good fix for hopefully 6 weeks.

Dont reach out for me to fix stuff, im too busy to take on any additional work!

Well, you did migrate south into redneck territory! Old single wide, "temporary" repairs, old cars scattered around in various states of repair/disrepair.

Must be Christmas Eve - red and green posoles are a cookin. Pre-hominy simmer. Tried a little white wine in the green posole. We’ll see.

Does the GSD get along with the ducks?

Well that’s the boys dog, who we have pretty much rescued from a 21 year old kid who never should have a dog,

Gypsy took awhile to come to me last month but when she came running from the barn she had a duck in her mouth. Not trying to kill it instead the duck was just looking around like it was along for the ride. Gypsy walked into the mud room, set duck down and went right into the trailer. I picked duck up the slightly injured duck, carried it back to the pen and it did fine.

First occurrence she took a duck and ran off behind shop although we never actually saw her do it. My tracking skills following bunches of feathers revealed some damn big paws. Not coyote stuff nor could it be my labs. I was certain we had duck eaten and walked back to house where lying next to the carport was a more then slightly injured duck but he too survived.

We watch gypsy much more carefully now and she has had some training with a collar and comes to us quickly when called. She even stopped chasing a whitetail yesterday in the woods when I hollered at her. Although the last thing we needed was another dog and I tried my best to find home for her initially, now she is just part of the family.

I tell you what, once you have a GSD, you are pretty much ruined…
I wonder how Vincent would do with ducks.
Not that we have any room for ducks, but I sure do love them!
Do they leave you/fly away?

Funny TJ, Kim made pen this summer after 7 of the original 9 last year got eaten by critters. Now each morning we open the door to pen, they fly down to front pond. At night after dark they have waddled back up to pen and they go in and we shut gate.

They flew away one day when son was watching them. I bet they flew to one of our other ponds but were home the next day.

That’s awesome!
I don’t know why, but they (ducks) just crack me up.
It seems like it would be fun to add some to the family.

Original ducks cost something like $5 each, all but two are other that she hatched from eggs from the originals.

I’ve got no less than $2000 in accommodations for the $45 we originally paid. We have two males so more eggs which will be more snakes this summer.

Cleaning up some things in barn and ran across this in Delancys old stuff. Since I know zilch about carbs and it’s labeled as such what the heck is this?
