I am replacing my suspension, and whether my '85 FJ60 was made for the North American market or not determines whether I need A/B springs, or two A's (3" lift) or two B's (2" lift.) If I get it wrong, the Land Cruiser will lean. Models from outside North America have a higher lift on the A spring than the B, so that it levels out. According to OME's own experts, North American models don't have the lean problem, so need two equal springs (two A's or two B's.)

My FJ60 is made in Japan, and has the designation GXF (as identified by the vin,) which this site states means it was made for outside the U.S. market: http://everythingfj60.com/60-series-buying-guide/ However I bought it in the U.S. and it doesn't have any features identified with foreign models, (sun roof, lean indicator, 3rd row seating, etc.) So I imagine it was made in Japan, for the American market? It's left-hand drive. Has anyone encountered this issue? Do I go with the A/B springs, or A/A or

B/B?

Thanks for any help!

Get the springs that OME recommends. Your cruiser wasn't imported from some exotic country if it has all the smog equipment on it. If it has an electronic ignition (igniter bolted to top of coil) and catalytic converter, it's a USA model.

I just looked at my VIN also. Mine was made in Japan as well.

I’ve got A/B and my truck doesn’t lean.

You’re thinking too hard. Just order the springs from curt at cruiser outfitters and let him guide you.

Plus I would remove my VIN number from a public site...

Always curious what the actual risk of revealed VIN or license plates is. I suppose a police officer could run the plates for open warrants....but unless you can hack into a DMV or police system I don't think you can get any personal info off of those pieces. Just curious what if anything there is to be worried about.

Same.
They’re posted all over in the for sale section, and nobody says anything there.

Found this on the Texas DMV website (guessed at the mileage):

2001123

A little experimentation with my VIN and also different mileages always returns $6000 :)

Point taken, guys. It's true, maybe there's little risk in posting your VIN number, but there are enough unscrupulous people out there that I feel more caution is better than not. I don't know what they might be able to do with my VIN number, but I know for sure they can't do anything with it if they don't have it. Anyway, just my thoughts.

If the OP feels comfortable posting up the VIN, I shouldn't tell him not to. It's personal preference....

I completely understand and I have always wondered if there was really any risk and if so what they may be. Lots of CL ads out there with thumbs blocking the license plate. But then I could just walk through a parking lot and write down plate numbers and VIN's...so I think the only risk I know of is police reading plate numbers looking for outstanding tickets or warrants.....many cities have police cars with cameras that they just troll through parking lots looking for hits.

Just did this myself today in fact. Easiest thing you could do. Tell him what you want to do with the truck and Kurt does the rest. Call Kurt.

I read that article twice. It states GX is a trim offered outside of the US. Not that it is in the VIN. The F in your VIN represents a 5 as in 1985. A=0, B=1, and so on. Every ten years the eighth number from the end switches between letters and numbers. My 1984 has an E there.

I’m not sure what the X in yours represents. I have a 1 there. We’d have to do some VIN research. I’m sure we all know that made in Japan is designated by the J as the first digit. United States is 5.

I thought every cruiser, especially 60 series are made only in Japan. Maybe intended for USA or other markets, but only manufactured there.

You know some cruisers were made in Brazil, but I did not think wagons got built anywhere but Japan. Even 200 series today should be only made in Japan? Correct?

I think you’re correct about 60 Series only being made in Japan. I was just using that as an example. I’m not sure about the 200 Series though. The first character of the VIN will tell you though... Just pulled up a few for sale locally. They have J as the first character.

We would love to help! Give us a call @ Cruiser Outfitters. We can sort out the A/B springs as well as the +,0,- springs, we also include complimentary sway bar extension kits, hardware fitting kits, etc.

I'd love to get it professionally done, but I'm way up in Bella Coola, B.C. in Canada!

95% of our orders ship fwiw. Canada is tough on the shipping of the springs but we've done it.

PS. I drove out to Bella Coola after doing the McKenzie Trail a few years back, gorgeous place!

It's a US market truck.
