Not sure where my scoop came from, but I like it

What about a hood scoop from a Gen III 4Runner "Highlander Edition" (later known as the Sport Edition. I had a 2000, the first year of the Highlander Edition and only year they called it that. It had a hood scoop. Since the body lines of the Gen III 4Runner are so similar to 80s it would probably not look horrible.

Don't know if the hood scoops are still available new OEM and they didn't make a ton of that edition so it may not be real easy to come by.

They are expensive when found. I've been looking for one for my '99 4r. But yes you can source new and used ones.

Those scoops actually look nice and should work well on an 80. The issue for most people in using them is it would require cutting the 80 hood and welding in the hood section from the 4Runner or whatever vehicle the scoop came from, followed by bodywork and paint. Just more complex and expensive for most to bother with.

Yeah, aren't those scoops integral to the hood? It would be tough work but those scoops are sweet. My buddies 4runner has one

I went the cowl induction, low profile route. The hood looked like someone walked on it so I figured I would give it a shot. You can see the heat waves pour out.

Old thread bump. Added a scoop yesterday to cover my peeling clearcoat. Center section of the hood is blacked out along with the scoop.
Looks pretty good. Certainly hides any clear coat peeling.

What kind of roof rack is that?

78 series graft into 80 series

that was more or less the look I was going for with mine. wanted the wider more angular scoop vs the rounded Subaru ones that some people have used. Again, the only reason I didn't go this route is the cost and complexity of grafting in a new hood section, not to mention it being near impossible to find a 78 series hood here in the states to cut a scoop out of. ;)

Don't worry, the wrecker scorched my wallet for $400-odd for that bonnet as it was undamaged..... And the cutting to make it fit NEATLY wasn't cheap either - I didn't want cut bracing visible from underneath. Mines really a 78 frame, 80 skin, 78 hump grafted into 80 skin. Lotsa work to say the least.

Maybe I missed it...what scoop did you use here?

Thats a subaru scoop.

I went with Pontiac GTP louvers. I am only worried about heat at low speed and in those scenarios a forward facing scoop doesn't make any sense.
