How much did that huge light bar set you back? And how well does it work?

I got the Rigid Industries light bar at the Lucas Oil Off road expo last year. I bought a bunch of stuff and got a great deal. The amount of light is insane. I have DEPOs and you can't even tell the headlights are on. Check my other threads for details.

Threw this together last night and this afternoon. Didnt have room for all the gear and the baby when we go to Cruise Moab. Gamiviti towers (very stout) and 1" square tubing.

As time allows i think ill add two more cross bars and spread the mounts apart a bit, but it will do for now.

Built this one a while back for my Tacoma. I used roof rails from FrontRunner that were designed for a non-US Hilux. I needed to make custom brackets to attach it but I really liked this setup since I don't have drip rails and didn't want to drill the roof.

I wanted low-profile and strong. This was definitely that. I was very suprised with out sturdy it was and the tie-down tracks made it quite useful. I found that I didn't like having cargo weight above the cab like that so I sold the rack and have fond other way to store gear. But thought I'd share to give others some ideas.

Easy as gutter mounts

This is my easy solution for home made gutter mounts.
I made mine 100mm wide as that seemed to be a good area to spread the load across, all you need is a couple of bits of suitable angle iron and a few bolts...

I love your rack... How much did it weigh, what were the dimensions, thickness of metal, etc? Thank you!

Just some tubing and beers... super low, sunroof fully functional without obstruction but can store more than just the RTT; and not too much noise even with the RTT

ya'll got some nice racks!

Adam, Work of art like all of your projects! Met you and the family on trip into the Rubicon years ago, Helped with steering arm bolts on FJ40. I also sold FJ40 for Tacoma.

I wanted to say thanks again Bogo, I went with the Polymax board and 1/4" 4x8' shipped to my door was only $107! Cutting it was easy, but install was a "CENSOR" due to me over installing it (I'm a perfectionist), but good news is no one will ever steal my rack without multiple hours of work. :D Here's some pics...

We wanted to help decrease the cabin temps a bit more and so we were told that the old Land Rovers had a double roof design that created a shaded area between the rack and the roof and thus creating lower cabin temps. So that in mind and with the help of some friends and such we bought UV stable marine poly board (much like cutting board). Here it is after it just arrived.

How has this held up under the sun so far? UHMW can warp quite dramatically if it's restrained too rigidly under exposure to heat and sun.

Not a single issue or warpage of any kind! No staining, discoloration or any side affects from what I could tell. Totally recommend at this point.

I recently built this for my 100 series out of two welded together atv ramps. I welded some 2" trim around the edge to make it look like a rack. I then used gamiviti towers and powder coated it to finish it off. Weights about 40lbs. I have about $450 into it total.

^^^ Looks really good... I'm assuming it's aluminum to only weigh 40#s.

i started on one for the 60 a while ago as well one for an 80 more recently...neither are finished.

the 80's is staying flat and they both need more tubing on the bottoms.

Yep, aluminum. The rack itself is 40lbs. Not sure how much more weight the gamiviti mounting towers add to it.

I'll play.

Rack is 7'6" long and just under 48" wide.
3/16 thick aluminum frame, 1/4" towers.
Was under $370 all in. Happy enough with it so far.

What size material did you use for the one on the 60? Is there anything you would have done differently?

I've been gathering ideas for a future sleeping platform/storage system and possibly a roof rack, and I'd like to make them out of aluminum to save weight. One of my long time friends took the welding class at the vocational school while I was taking the machining class and I was planing on having him help me build them, but I'm going to need to know what size material I'll need before I talk to him about it. :)
