Just finished mine in time for some snow. I'll finish the wiring this weekend.

That looks sweet! Nice work.

What size material did you use for the one on the 60? Is there anything you would have done differently?

1x1 and 1x2x10ga.
i should have went with six mounts instead of four.

Just set up there right now, working on it for a Christmas present for my dad. So I have to sneak over and work on it while he's at work and work on it, and then leave before he gets home so it's been slow going. He's a semi obsessed fisherman so I am going to add flat 1/8th sides with trout outlines cut out to each side. Should be pretty sweet when it's done. Going to remove the stupid plastic ski rack things when it's all done and have it mounted closer to the roof so it should be pretty flush and sleeker looking when it's done.

Different designs for roof racks on Landcruisers and Toyota 4x4's

We only made a few of this style, so each one was a one off variation:

Fits a 50" Light bar or five regular lights. Made to carry long items/loads.

That is an idea I like, mounting the lights below the top of the rack, over the windshield. My opinion, worthless of course, is a reflective shield between the light bar and the glass. I think it would eliminate feedback glare, maybe want a matt hood pad as well. I've seen it as quite common with the land rover defender guys in the jungles.

SoCal nice rack I really like that , it would look really good on my 80

Finally got around to taking pictures of the rack I built this summer. Excuse the not so perfect welds as this rack was my excuse to learn how to weld aluminum. Very happy with it. I went with a much deeper basket than most (8") as my rack gets used for a lot of big duffles and every piece of adventure sports gear you can imagine so this makes it really easy to just throw everything up top, net it, and not really worry about it. Rack mounts were rubberized using a rubber protective wrap used on pipelines that has a heat activated adhesive on the back.
Sorry for the lack of detailed pictures, I am on crutches right now to climbing around on the truck is not really in the cards...

Got it mostly finished and gave it to him yesterday. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. There are a few minor things I need to fix before paint, but it came out cool. Got to build some mounts this weekend now that I have access to the 4runner. It was hard enough to sneak measurements on it without him knowing, let alone take apart the ski racks to build mounts.

Made him a hitch cover to match it too. :)

great job, where'd you source your bends?

I like the fishy gussets.

I don't have a bender or even know anyone who does... so I cut up a hitch mounted cargo rack for the corners. I have another one I plan to do the same to for my cruiser.

Can you post a close up of the trout cutout? Looks really good.

Thank you guys. Yeah, I am going over tomorrow to paint it and build the mounts. I'll snap a closeup when it'd all painted up and done. :)

That's what I thought, did you see mine from a few years back or did you have the same epiphany at Harbor Freight? I actually owned a bender at the time but they wanted too much $ for the square dies that would only be used for one project.

No, I didn't see your's. I just had bought one of the cargo racks from HF to use on my roll bar and started looking at it thinking... that would make a nice looking roof rack too. So I bought two more for the cruiser and for my parent's 4runner. I figured I wasn't the only one who had ever thought that though.

I just finished up the mounts for it a few minutes ago and am going to over there after I eat something and get it all mounted up and painted. :)

Here is the fishy...

Going to cut down the bolts, I just didn't want leave too little. It got to dark tonight to get it welded onto the mounts, but I am happy they all lined up right and worked well. Exactly what I wanted. :)

Impressive, thanks for the up close shot! Really good job and I like how you got it as low as you did.
