Help me decide on 4 inch springs

Here's another factor to look at; going from 3" of lift to 4" cost A LOT of money. Brake lines, extended sway bars, bump stops, new driveshafts, new rear/adjustable control arms, lateral track bar realignment (panhard rod), chasing caster correction issues, chasing vibrations, getting tired of chasing vibrations and installing a part time kit, higher end shocks to handle all the weight, travel, and driving habits....

Stay at 3" of lift or below. Install a 1" body lift, 315's or 37's, and some skid plates. Don't be like me.

@chap79 ill already f’d up man. On the floor of my garage I got the new delta radius arms, panhard bracket, dc driveshaft, beefier lower rear arms, and all the little things you mentioned.

Just my .02 cents here, but why the need for dual rate or progressive rate springs when our 80 cargo/ass weight doesn't change? The OP has a fat ass :hillbilly: and that weight ain't changing from Sunday night to Monday morning before he heads to work. IMHO, OP should only be looking at a linear rate to accommodate his rotundness and I agree with keeping it as low as possible by going with the myriad of high end 3" suspensions that are now in the market. But, given the peer pressure, OP might want 315s and 4" lift height

There's never a NEED for dual rates. But single rates will always be compromised in that your ride height is a function of spring rate an number of turns. In many cases, to get the handling you want, you will need a heavy spring... which won't compress much at ride height, which will limit useful extension and total travel. On the other side... you could get a soft single rate and end with a suspension that doesn't handle well at all on the road but flexes well. Progressives or dual rates enable you to pick the first and second rate to get around that problem. With the options out there, why not go dual rate?

Understood, I think. So, a heavy 80 will crush the softer rate and ride on the heavier rate all of the time. It's when you start flexing, is when you'll notice a longer suspension extension and you better have shocks lengths to back this up. So, it's all about sexy flexy?

You should really see if you can find someone near you that has an 80 with Slinky suspension and go for a ride in it. I haven't ridden in any 80 that rides as well on the pavement and in the dirt as the Slinky stuff does. Only way to really "get it" is to go for a ride (or drive) in a truck with a Slinky setup.

@Box Rocket. I originally was gonna go slinky but it seems like they are never available and had bad customer service rep?
That's old news. They've changed their US distributor and those issues are mostly gone. The customer service issue isn't an issue any longer. They are still sold out from time to time but most of the time Endless Horizon Outfitters has kits ready to ship. Call Kevin at EHO and he can get you set up. You won't regret it.

it's all clear as mud now.... How do I get ahold of someone at Dobinson's?
You can DM them here on Mud. Thats what I did.

However, if i could have a do-over, Id spend more time with @gwnugget 's thread. Dobinson will obviously have a product for you :grinpimp: but they arent there to ensure you cant screw it up. I screwed it up and had to swap out brand new front springs (which you cannot return once installed) because my front end wasnt heavy enough and i netted 4"+ from a spring advertised as 3" (rear was good). Review the work thats been done and understand it. There is a damn good reason that thread is in the stickys.

Why spend the dough to end up with a subpar outcome? Weigh the truck.

Btw: my front end is 2900 lbs

Dan, go to the dump up the coast! The scale is at the booth. Dudes will let you weigh in.

Need to weight both axles. Lots of Pilot and TA places have them.Should be able to call just about any truck stop and ask where the nearest one is

I got the Dobinson flexi 4 inch springs off of amazon or you can go to there website, which sucks, or go thru mud.

Sometimes Dobinson increases their prices on Amazon. I thought the website was fine.

or @crikeymike at dobinsons. He's the one i went through for my tapered dobs.
