My front left tire is showing damage to the shoulder tread blocks from clipping the inner fender bolts, so I want to make up some extensions. I'd like to make them, rather than buy them, so I can keep as much up travel as possible. From what I've seen, I should remove the springs and jack up the wheel to measure the gap at the axle, and then bolt a rubber, plastic, or metal plate of that thickness to the contact pad on the axle. Is it really that simple?
