Well, there are some leaks I need to take care of. I have some coolant leaking from somewhere and my valve cover is leaking oil (even has a new gasket).

This morning, I fired it up and found out that my new chrome alternator isn't spinning. The belt was shrieking like crazy. Add one more thing to the list.

Dave, make sure your valve cover gasket isn't pinched on one of the back corners of the engine near the firewall. Mine did that and it developed a very slow weep. Drove me nuts looking for it.

I need to get out and work on my junk...

Hmm, well at least Hamp is letting you know where it's coming from!

Got the new gauges to work. I need to get the stock water temp gauge working next.

The gauges are by Hewitt Industries and AutoMeter.

I also swapped in a new shut down valve that goes on the injection pump. It was pretty easy and straight forward.

David,

Is that shut down valve like a run away valve, that cuts off the fuel in a run away situation? I'm not sure of the right terminology. I carry a piece of 2x6 in order to cover the air intake, in case of a run away.

Ron, this is the primary way of shutting off the engine. There is a mechanical linkage that can be used on the pump if the vacuum valve doesn't work.

I also have a board ready just incase none of those mechanisms work.

My new aero turbine muffler came in today. Got it cheap on ebay. I don't know if i want to tackle the exhaust myself or get it done.

Apparently, Jones now owns the rights to the Aeroturbine design and name.....maybe. Hopefully, it won't sound bad.

Why not straight pipe it? Vehicle regs?

I guess it depends where you go. The place near my house was all over my FJ40. They made me put a muffler on it and had me fix the leaky steering pump before they signed off on the safety inspection.

This muffler is supposed to be very free flowing without being loud and annoying.

Dave,
I bought the 3030XL Areo muffler that looks exactly like the Jones you bought.
I’ve read on the nets that the 6BT guys claim a HP increase when they have dyno’ed with and without the Aero muffler’s, it’s also supposed to help quite a bit with the drone that the Cummins engines have at certain RPM’s.

I’ll be interested to hear how you like it.
