Check out the massive frame side engine mounts I got from MercedesDiesel4x4.com.

glad you got it there Dave. order your gaskets so you can replace those too :) dont skip this part!

I'll be there tomorrow after lunch.

I'm still researching what seals I need, but I will definitely do some of them. I'll check the rear main, but I'm not too motivated to tackle that big job.

Spent some time on the pig today pulling stuff off the engine. Should be ready to pull it out tomorrow!

looks good Dave! what the piece sitting on the right side? battery tray?

Dave,

Are those motor mounts going to be welded on the frame and are you using a special fluid type bushing?

Scrapdaddy, they will be welded in. The mounts are designed for the stock 300SD rubber mounts and are not the fluid filled ones. I don't think this engine will be as bad as the 4bt that's in my 80 series in regards to vibration, so the stock mounts should work fine.

Here's how the stock OM617 engine mounts look.

I plan on filling in the void in the back with Shore A 30 urethane to keep the mount from totally collapsing. Here's a pic of what one guy did.

Interesting, Is that the acceptable thing to do, in the diesel world. I can see where the stock one would collapse with the vibrations of a diesel.

I think they just collapse with age. This is just a way to safeguard against the oil pan hitting the differential when/if it collapses.

That's why you fill them with Shore 30A urethane instead of something harder.

Dave,

Where would a guy look for a product like that. Seems it would be useful for a lot of things.

Just out of curiosity, Have you ever heard of using window urethane? How much does the Shore A cost?

This is what i love about this website, so many people for such a diverse background. You learn a TON just by watching.

I have heard of people using that, but the stuff I bought looks to be easier to pour and the hardness is specified. I don't know what the hardness specs are on the window stuff.

I paid under $25 for the kit to do my two mounts.
