Not much this week. My son was home the last two days with a bad allergic reaction.

I did swing by the shop and started cutting off the old motor mounts and will clean up the engine bay while I'm in there.

Finally picked up the engine. Going to work on it tomorrow!

order your seals yet?

No, Mauricio says it only needs new valve cover gaskets. He did some work on it when it was in his Gwagen.

I would if I had more time. I'm under the gun now. Are you done with yours yet?

I just finished welding these up.

Picked up some stock 300D motor mounts from the pick and pull. A little degreaser and they're shiny looking.

My buddy and I muscled the tranny/tcase onto my hitch carrier and blasted away 40 years of crud at the car wash. Man, what a mess.

Sorry, I started a new job last week and have been busy as hell. I did get the engine in last week and was able to stab the tranny/t-case in today. A lift makes things so much easier.

looks real nice Dave, ( even with the lame excuse of starting a job). Now all you need to do is buy my 62 rear axle and put it in there :D

Nice to have a lift. Would be nice to have that high ceiling shop. You're doing some good work, the motor looks like it was made for the pig.

Looks like I lost some pictures with the forum upgrade. I'll have to fix that later.

While waiting for some AN fittings to come in, I rebuilt my parking brake. It's always nice working with clean parts.

I thought I'd update this thread with some tech.

Since the pig's firewall is oddly shaped, the OM617 filter housing would interfere especially with the squishy Mercedes engine mounts. I decided to relocate the oil filter housing away from the firewall.

Here's where I got the relocation kit. http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/product_p/a-mb108.htm
The kit supplies the adapter plates, but you will then have to supply the hoses and fittings depending on what you want to do. I chose to use AN fittings so I could build the hoses myself.

The fittings I used for the main oil lines between adapter plates were 1/2NPT to -8AN fittings.

The smaller bypass line uses a 1/8"NPT to -4AN Push-Lok.

Here's the Push-Lok hose I bought per Tucker's recommendation. Summit calls their hose Twist Tite.

For the two fittings going to the oil cooler, I used adapter fittings from MercedesDiesel4x4. They take the metric fitting and convert it to a -8 AN fitting. You can then use an aftermarket oil cooler with 8AN fittings. Source: http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/product_p/a-mb105.htm

For the oil pressure gauge sender, I used another adapter from MercedesDiesel4x4. This one converts the metric fitting into a generic 1/8" NPT.

For the turbo oil feed line (silver banjo fitting below), I got a M14x1.5 Banjo to -6AN adapter from Kunigawa. A restrictor was not needed because the stock setup did not have one.

At the turbo, I used this. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PPE-516001000

This shows where I'm mounting the filter housing. I'll have plenty of room under the hood.

David,

That's some cool stuff. Are you going to use braided stainless steel for lines? Finding all the right adapter fitting is half the battle.

What I really want to know is, how did you fit under the hood to take that picture? :)

LOL, the radiator is out..so I had no issues getting under the hood :)

Yes, I'm going to use SS braided hose.
