I got a reply: just shy of $1350 including the 105 upgrades, plus $110 for the additional ports, plus shipping and taxes.

They’re not stupid. They’re pricing it with just enough gap to a new box from partsouq at $2k to make it worthwhile for some, but with Impex currently at same price for oem new, it makes ZERO sense to go with an aftermarket reseal job.

Yall need to drive one with a new box dude. It’s amazeballs.

Put me in that camp. Just moments ago I bought the 105 Steering Box (4411060212) with pitman arm (45411-60360) from IMPEX. As @Nay mentioned, the exchange rates are great right now.

The downside is that IMPEX takes a month or more to ship, and they can come back at you with additional shipping charges.

Eventually, I might reseal and add the 105 shaft to mine to have as a spare. It has 178K on it.

Put me in that camp. Just moments ago I bought the 105 Steering Box (4411060212) with pitman arm (45411-60360) from IMPEX. As @Nay mentioned, the exchange rates are great right now.

The downside is that IMPEX takes a month or more to ship, and they can come back at you with additional shipping charges.

Eventually, I might reseal and add the 105 shaft to mine to have as a spare. It has 178K on it.

The US reseal vendors ain't exactly amazon.com from what I'm reading here.

Someone in some Toyota factory in Japan made a steering box ready for decades of service. A part that is integral to your 80 experience every.single.time.you.drive.

Don't forget the nut and washer.

If you took the time to look at any of the links I posted you would see that the were Multiple post in some of those links and like I said that was just the beginning there was a lot more I didn't post a lot
I agree most only post up when they have a issue but when there's post after post there something wrong !!
Like I said I'm happy you got a good box from them.

If you need a steering box just just go new or reseal it your self !

A brief history of 80 series steering box “rebuilds”:

1. Be careful doing it yourself, if you mess up or lose any balls you are screwed.
2. Send it to West Texas Offroad, they do great work.
3. WTOR boxes are coming back with problems.
4. Send it to Redhead, they do great work.
5. Redhead boxes are coming back with problems.
6. Do it yourself.
7. Watch PartSouq to see if the price ever comes down enough.

The only real thing that should raise anybody’s eyebrows is just go get that rebuild Toyota kit and see how much you are paying for the seals. It’s a huge project to pull a steering box, send it by mail, get it back, reinstall it, and your steering is pretty much the same as it was. If you develop a leak, and your box wasn’t leaking before, then it’s now worse. And you get to do it again. Replacing seals on a box that isn’t leaking is a solution that can create a problem and you won’t know until you are driving it. The best case is it still doesn’t leak.

People with rack and pinion steering replace the full assembly. There’s a reason for that. We don’t because US dealers want the better part of $4K for the box and you can have a custom rack and pinion built for that kind of coin. So when you are looking at $1K + shipping, even if Impex hits you up for a bit more, you have an opportunity.

I don’t daily my 80 and I don’t run swaybars because swaybars suck so I don’t need much here except something that doesn’t leak and doesn’t break, but I want to pull this box one time and replace it one time. Fixing the frame in the process. Recirculating ball steering systems are awesome for the flexibility they provide in steering linkage design with a solid front axle including the lack of dependence on the steering system tierod design - they absolutely suck otherwise, it’s the frog boiling as performance deteriorates. You have no idea how hot the water really is, but you can probably remember a time when your 80 didn’t feel so clapped out…and that’s your balls…

The only experience I have had with Redhead was a failure in under 10k miles. This was on a highway only driven 2500 Duramax. Massive leaking from output shaft. They warrantied it.

No dumb questions but you did make me double check. Partsouq lists it, and the appropriate pitman, as an alternative to the LHD 80 version

Toyota parts arent perfect either. My brother has worked at Toyota/Lexus service for a good part of the past 15 years. Tons of stories of bad parts being sent out, used parts being packaged in "new" factory boxes, missing parts (fewer parts than should come in a kit). You name it. Toyota apparently cant even build a damn truck engine these days without it exploding after a couple of oil changes.

That being said, if you have spare cash laying around, sounds like getting a new box from IMPEX is ideal at this point in time. When I got my redhead box, the new toyota part was over $2k. If it was a grand like it is now, I would've definitely went that route.

My steering box is also leaking like a sieve and steering is loose. I'm the kind of guy that likes to rebuild everything myself (just check out some of my threads), but even I'm leaning towards a new box on this one. Why? Well, if you just want to fix the leaks, a reseal kit will do that. That's about $120USD, and if you do the labour yourself and just do the seals, sure, that's an option. If your box is clapped out and your steering wheel has massive play in it though, you really should be fixing that. I want to fix that issue. What's involved in that? Well, to fix the play, you actually need to replace the cross shaft, and the gears inside the valve assembly, which aren't sold separately so you need the whole assembly.

For my rig, a HZJ80, here are the bare essential prices I'd need to pay to fix my steering wheel slop today (Partsouq prices):
274.69USD - SHAFT, CROSS
740.33USD - VALVE ASSY, W/BALL NUT
116.68USD - Gasket kit

And since I'm replacing the cross shaft, there's really zero reason not to do the sector shaft upgrade I'd get with the new box, so let's throw in a new pitman arm:
92.95USD - ARM, PITMAN

That's 1224.65USD, and I haven't replaced the bearings, springs, nuts, etc. I still need to clean up and paint the box in some decent enamel paint, do all the labour for the rebuild, and either source a new box to do the rebuild on, or have my rig off the road for a bit while I do all this work.

And what's the current price of a brand new box, with the upgraded sector shaft from the factory? 1965.78USD. Plug and play, everything brand new, AND I have an old box I get to keep and put on my shelf, and can still mess around with rebuilding later or use as an emergency spare. With a minimal DIY rebuilding being 2/3 the cost of a new box, it just isn't worth doing a rebuild yourself, cost-wise.

Now, as for rebuilt boxes from various places, if they're less than 1224.65USD, how do you think they're doing that? They can't get a cross shaft and new valve assembly from Toyota for cheaper than you can, so do you think that's included? There isn't a shop out there replacing those critical worn parts with new genuine parts, because if they did, it'd cost significantly more than the cost of a new Toyota box once you factored in the labour and markup to make it worth their while.
