What will be your use of the truck, realistically?

You have a fair amount of armor front and rear.

If you go back with OME, call Cruiser Outfitters. Don't get the OME sport version shocks, as they are much stiffer than the other version.

Many here will tell Dobinson, but you need to do your research and TALK to them and Cruiser Outfitters. Actually use the phone so you can get it all out at once.

Realistically, it will be a daily neighborhood kid hauler. We have 7 girls on the block that all go to the same school. The LC is going to be the new school bus. I plan on using it on moderate trails 1 weekend monthly, and off road trips a few times a year.

I’m also trying to keep costs low. I’m already $4,200 into a vehicle I wasn’t planning on. With realistically another 4K earmarked. It’s a 30+ year old LC from the North. I don’t want to sink tons of money into it. Just enough to make it fun and reliable for trips.

Watch for a used suspension that someone else is pulling out because it's not high enough, not stretchy enough, or whatever.

Decide exactly what you want before you start watching. That's what I did and it took 4 years to get it, but there are people cycling through this stuff much faster now because there are more options.

You don't need anything more than a 2.5" lift (so the kids can still climb in) and probably heavy in the front of you have a winch, and medium in the rear with air bags.

Agreed. Keep an eye out in local clubhouse and/or FB groups. Someone should have a pair shortly for cheap to get running while your determine buid/renovation plans.

I’ve got a rear pair of OME J taking up space here but in NC

Thank you guys. That’s a great idea!! I’ll start scrolling the classifieds. Ideally, I would like to get it back to a solid driver in 4-8 weeks.

I just pressure washed 20 years of oil and grime away. Took 3 separate washings to come clean. Now I can get the PB Blaster so start soaking.

*edit - 4 pressure washes.

Will FJZ exhaust/cats bolt up to an FJ80? I need new exhaust from the down pipes back. Saw some local on craigslist.

Is the exhaust leaking? Or just ugly?

If not leaking, hold off.

If you have OCD tendencies,
#1 you're in the right place to feed the OCD (Mud OCD is a legit disease)
#B, this truck will bleed you dry
#iii, my list will let you know how deep the OCD runs

The exhaust is shot. Rusted out. Broken 02 sensors, rounded, frozen nuts, rotted hangers. I’m no stranger to modding. I’ve been known to go overboard on vehicles. Although, the plan here is to keep it as cheap as possible.

First frozen, sheared bolt. Just trying to get the ski rack off.

Front and rear differential oil replacement. That stuff was nasty! Milky in the rear, metallic in the front. One decent shaving came out of the front diff. Could that shaving be part of the arb air locker tubing set up?

Why? I’m not driving it. It won’t pass until I change the cats/exhaust anyways. I’m still trying to source out exhaust.
I would look at magnaflow they have bolt in cats for the later 80 series, but check the website they might have some for the earlier ones. Since it is a CA rig you have to get CA compliant cats, but with the tags still out of state you might get away with ordering Federal compliant cats and save you tons. The only way you can get the non California compliant ones is to have them shipped to family outside of CA and they forward them to you. IN NO WAY AM I TELLING YOU TO DO THIS.
