I picked up this rust free LX earlier this summer. No engine but I have a few spare 1FZs around to rebuild. Same for the original 343 auto.

Interested in what you 80-series enthusiasts think the direction should be. This Cruiser will be for sale once finished.

Rebuild a 1FZ and run a good used trans is the cheapest option.

I do have the hard to get parts for a manual trans swap. Probably around same cost as a v8 swap to rebuild a 1FZ and swap in a manual trans.

V8 swap would be good low mile junkyard combo vs a new engine/trans. Still going to be $5-10k just to get an engine and trans.

The rest of the Cruiser I have a bunch of parts around for it like carpet, lifts, ect ect. Probably recover front seats and steering wheel and call it good for interior, dash is not cracked. Needs a hood and probably front clip painted. Maybe pull roof rack during the build as well.

Not a keeper for me, will sell once back on the road.

V8 all day long

I would sh!t my pants to see a 2UZ swap. If you can figure out how to make it work, you’ve got another customer. I have a 2001 100 series I’m holding onto for just this reason.

Well, I voted 1Fz with 5speed.

You didn’t say Toyota V8!

Either one works, now if you went Toyota V8 with 5speed then I will pick that one!

You are selling it, you'll get more out of it with a V8 swap. Any 6 swap, even with a manual trans is still under powered unless you blow it one way or the other. If you are going to invest the time and money a V8 with auto trans will have the broadest audience. My favorite build of mine to drive was hands down a 6.0L Vortec/5 speed Tremec/ split case in a 60 body on 80 roller. Unfortunately, the manual trans narrows your perspective a great deal.

Do a Cummins diesel swap!

Who in the **** voted to keep it stock? Oh, that was me. I say keep it stock. Easy-peasy. You have drivetrains at the ready. Sling it in, clean her up, get your profit and focus on your build. My boring 2 pence.

Ya that is the way I am leaning simply because I already got a project that is taking me forever.

Cheers

2uz with a manual would probable sell the fastest, but also bring a bigger sale price which would limit your customer base. 30k 1fz with Manual is a lot more achievable than $60k with a 2uz.

I don’t disagree with this. Price point kind of goes like this for resale.

#1 $20+k

#2 $30+k

#3 $50+k

It does limit the market by upscaling and it also will take much more time & $$$$ to build.

Cheers

Obviously more work and you seem to be pretty busy over there! If you were able to produce the motor mounts and location, a wiring harness, tranny adapter. All the hard stuff I would assume you could sell that package for a 2uz conversion I would buy one! Keep up the good work!!

We have thought about doing that kind of stuff but every time we build something it is pretty one off. Had to fab/modify an 80-series trans crossmember the other day to raise the trans 11/16”. That suits the build we are doing and nothing else.

Totally understand!

I was kind of surprised I was the #2 stock vote. LOL. V8 swaps are cool but I would just go buy a new ride (GX460) if I was going to go that route. No offense to what anyone is planning. I love it all!

How about a 2JZ-GTE swap? Get you some real powah!

Actually that would be a very interesting possibility, but not for a rig anyone wanted to just flip. But I'd sure like to see a Supra powered 80, that'd be seriously cool!
