The PO of my 76 FJ40 installed a bench seat from a Tacoma and it's time I get rid of it.

I've been looking for some original high-back bucket seats with the headrest but they are very hard to come by.

Has anyone installed any other seats?? I don't know what fits and what doesn't so if you have installed some please let me know.

I would love to go back original if I could find some. Thanks!!

Do you weld and are you willing to fab up brackets? Or are you wanting turn key seats that will bolt up to OEM seat brackets?

I installed scat procar rally seats because I didn't weld at the time. They were spendy but easy to install. I'm picky, so I'm not super impressed wth the quality of my Chinese scat's.

I've since taught myself to to weld. So if I had a "do-over" I'd take a few hours and go to a pick-n-pull and find seats that suit me better. I've noticed the 60 guys are installing BMW 3 series seats. I see Torfab is selling brackets to do the FJ60 install. Never sat in a BMW but I'd bet they're nice seats.

Front buckets from a Chrysler Sebring. Just the right size, comfortable, relatively inexpensive at salvage yards, has a self contained seat belt, the ones I found had electric adjustments on the drivers side and both are heated although I don't have that wired at this time.

Scat Pro 90/Pro 90 low back have an original seat look to them and are OK as far as quality and comfort.Scat sells vehicle specific adapters as well.
Try the claasifieds if you want original. You can always rebuild and reupholster an old pair.

Keep in mind that 60 series seats will probably need to be refurbished too.
I've never seen a driver's seat in a 60 series that the side bolster wasnt worn through or torn.
Good luck

I know where a set of OEM seats and all the related mounting brackets can be found, everything but the headrests.

I don't think the 60 series or the 79+ FJ40 seats are as robust as the 73-78 FJ40 seats. Those are very stout seats. Frames on the later seats are a lighter gauge metal. Personally before doing anything I would find someone local with stock seats and see how the fit it for you. If it's not a good fit then look to aftermarket. Even then placement for someone else might not be right for you. Would settle with a not perfect fit with original but not aftermarket. At the age these are now original will be worth more.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice. I've been looking for a set of stock seats (76 to 78) for a while and can' find any that are decent. They are mostly trashed or missing parts or way above what I want to pay (and then have to recover). For the price, I think I'm going to try some ScatPro 90s. I'm missing the center bar bracket if anyone has one they would be interested in selling.

Thanks Again!!

A while back I found some Mazda 626 headrests in a wrecking yard in North Las Vegas for my '76 FJ40, which was missing the headrests when I bought it. Same post diameter and spacing:

I have a set of factory low back buckets from a 75, Also any mounting brackets needed. I would like to sell everything as a complete set with drivers side slider. Passenger side is near excellent condition. Drivers side just needs recovered but foam is in great condition. I will post up some pics. Make me an offer.

Sent you a PM.

@GA Architect - Those are nice and exactly what I want to do. Do the seats crowd the console at all? Did they bolt up to the stock mounts without any adapters? I looked on the Procar site and didn't see a set of adapters for 76-78 models. Thanks!

In my '77, I used the #81618 & #81619 Procar brackets. I did have to waller-out the passenger side, front right two holes a bit. Hence the large fender washers.

As long as you don't have an 8" or wider console, you should be fine. My 6" Tuffy console works. I can send a few photos this evening.

HTH...:)
