Looking at it when I tore it apart, it was pretty dry on that side. I'm not sure at to why since after filling it, I drove around my neighborhood (let the oil slosh to the wheel bearings) a fair amount and then added more fluid to top it off again. The passenger side was well lubed. I did not pack the bearings with lithium grease as I have never had a problem with all the other rear full floats I've built. This go around I probably will grease them just to insure they are lubed well until the gear oil get to them. :bang:

Ok, so the 14 bolt bearings have a fluid lubricant, but you have to pack them with grease on first assembly? Wierd. Maybe it was a bad bearing to begin with.

The 14 bolt wheel bearings are oil lubed. On all the other FF rear axles I've built I've never had a problem not using grease on initial install. White Lithium grease is oil soluble so as the oil makes it's way to the bearings, the grease will break down. I figure this go around I'll pack them just for insurance.

I checked th bearings upon assembly and they looked good.

Oh well. It should be back up and running in a day or 2.

I don't know, I was trying to figure out why a bearing that had lube and passed visual inspection failed like that. Total destruction.

Anyway, sick axle build!

Got it all buttoned up last night. Filled it up with gear oil and took a slow ride around my neighbor hood. I went around the traffic circle a few times each direction and then went back and checked the diff oil again. Drove to work today and the wheel hubs were nice and cool when I got here.

Got it out last weekend. Seemed to be working pretty well. Heres a few pics.

I was in the front so unfortunately the only action shots of my pile aren't too close up.
