For the t-case not staying in gear, you can try to increase detent tension, but I imagine that your shift collars teeth are worn, or the fork, or even the gears where they are engaged by the collar.

Can you explain a little more on the detent tension. When I took this apart the first time all of the gears look good and the shift forks did'nt look to be worn out.

Well I got it back out was'nt to bad. Thank god for the cage in the cruiser. Works great as a anchor point for a straps.

After I had it out I check to see how tight eveything was and it seemed fine. I ended up taking it to the tranny shop. The owner is a real nice guy so I had him look at it. After shifting it back in forth though the gears he said it seems fine to him and he would not rebuild it. So now I am not sure what to do? Is seems to be a its out might as well vs it needs to be. I can be back on the road a heck of alot quicker and ready for our trip if I just split and grind what I need to and put it back together. Here is the big:censor: up that I did. Hopefully somebody will see this pic someday and never do that. Again DO NOT GRIND THE TOYBOX

Also I think this is my shift problem. It's fairly hard to shift it back and forth from Hi N Low. I think it was just binding up and I need to adjust the linkage. Also is this how the block goes? It seems to bind when shifting into low like the angle is off but if I turn it the set screw will not line up. Hopeful George will chime in.

Time to clean and disassemble.

Nice painted toenails and purple flops. :princess::p

Dam I try and keep my feet outa pics, little self conscious with the small toes and nail polish:p. Well I have it tore apart and everything measures fine and meets spec per FSM. The gears line up great. I think I am going to put it back and run it. Really don't have the 225 for the build kit anyway. Here are some pics please tell if you guys see somthing that is not right.

On the top the shift fork is a devise the screws in, under the screw is a spring and a ball, you can tighten the up a bit to help hold the case it in gear, its a band-aid fix if any of the shifting mechanism parts are worn, but its moot if the linkage doesn't let it fully engage in the first place.

Since you have it all disassembled anyway you should really pull that bearing off the mainshaft assembly and inspect that shift collar (I guess spector calls it the sleeve Specter Off-Road Land Cruiser Parts - Page 070 Land Cruiser Transfercase, Shafts, Gears, Gaskets & Seals item 23) and connecting areas on the gears. The sleeves get worn and cause these problems. But I would venture to guess that maybe something is wrong with the shifting linkage.

Thanks for the link. Once I started to tear it down I saw the detent spring. I have been doing some looking and paying way more attention this time and I have no shims to set my preload. I must have skipped right over this last time :bang: .
I am a ratard ( in my best hangover voice) I get in a hurry sometimes. So I have an a few on order. Talked with Kurt and he said just order a coulpe different sizes and mix and match so I was'nt buying all 13.

I think you have that shifter block upside down. Why don't you drill and tap a new set screw hole on the opposite side of that shifter block (if there isn't one there already) and flop it over so that there is no interference between the block and the rod/rod end?

I flipped it over and turned out worse with the angle to the tranny. I ended up just grinding some off the end and going to adjust the linkage. When it sits on the bench and shifts it is nice and tight and and takes some force to shift gears. I have it all put back together and set the preload. It seems a little tighter. It is bolted to tranny now just have to put everthing back. Wish I would have made the crossmember easier to bolt and unbolt. That will be the first redesign I make later in the summer. Going to try and draw up a flat belly pan like posted previous.

Everything is back in and working great. The shifting problem I was having was a little of both. It shifts nice and seems to stay in gear better but we will see headed out tomorrow to try and find some place to test some things out before we take of to CO. Drove it to work today and feels good seeing somewhere besides the shop. Still having a small timing issue but that will be easy enough to fix.

That's great news!!!

Got the trailer done today and it works great. Did a test load to see if everything works. Pretty good find for a grand just needed some paint.

Oops, Yep you need to take a little out of the t-case for the shift rail. That cover may be replacable. If you don't seal it up it will get debris in it.

It spewed lots of oil when I drove it so back apart it went. I ended up getting some metal to metal putty and spreading it over the gaps and it sealed up good. I finally figured out the idle probelm I was having. I had to replace to IAC sensor and reset the computer. It did'nt work the first time, they don't say you have to drive 40mph for several miles but now it idles at about 800ish so thats good. All in all its running pretty good and ready to go on its first trip on Thursday. I can't wait to see what happens. It will probally break in a millon pieces but hey as long as I get to crawl over something firts.

Holly s***y day on the road. It took 7 hrs to make a 3.5 hr trip. Thr trailer blew 3 tires and had to unload cruiser on interstate and drive 40 miles to a town to get tires. The kids where shot ny the time we teach co. But we are here and headed to the trail in the morn.

So much for that "Got the trailer done today and it works great. Did a test load to see if everything works. Pretty good find for a grand just needed some paint. " lol looks like it needs some new rubber as well. ;)

Hey if you need anything while here in CO let me know man

I know right, who new the guy who put stiffeners in the fenders left a pices of metal down the center that slices tires in half while loaded. I will thanks for tje offer will ne at indy in the morn if close come join.

We did Indy today in CO and the cruiser ran great no breakage and flexs good. The 465 and toybox is a great setup. Will post pics when we I get a chance. Had a great first day wheeling.
