LCOwner's build up 1.0
I've got to have something to wheel this spring and summer. My FJ40 project is stalled for various reasons so I'm going to take some of the parts slated to for that and use them on the Wagon. I have a Marlin built SM420 and ToyBox w/4.70 gears and some other junk. I still need to buy the MC23 adapter to mate this to the split case. So in the mean time I started on the SOA today after a little shop clean up. This is the first SOA I've done on an FJ60 so input form ya'll is appreciated.

Nah. This build is going to be "family friendly". So it doesn't need anything that heavy.
More pics tonight.

Todays progress

2. Rebuilt springs with an a leaf addes from old FJ40 packs I had.
3. Front axle stripped down.
I had big help from great friends today. I wouldn't be this far without their help.

1. Larry gas wrenching off the brackets.
2. The hole Larry blew in the housing gas wrenching the brackets off. Larry's not allowed to use the gas wrench anymore.

So I stripped down the rear completely and I'll steam clean both tomorrow morning. I hope to have the rear end back on the ground by the end of the day tomorrow and the related bracket cut off the front housing and frame too. My help will be cut in half but in in this phase I don't mind slowing down a little.

Way to go Larry!
You might want to leash Larry to PB Blaster and matches from now on...
Make sure you take LOTS of photos when you do the "cut & turn" so everyone can see Larry's coux de gras!

Larry won't be there today but I'll make sure I get some good pics of the cut and turn (CNT). Check back tonight.

Well all of my help bailed on me but that's OK. After I got back from steam cleaning the housings and cleaning the knuckles and thirds in the parts washer I repaired the axle housing. I may reinforce that part. There was a nickel blow out on the inside of the tube you can kind of see in the pic.
So the axle c/l is at 16" on the jack stand, and the body at the same spot is almost 10" more than it was when I started (see above). Now in the first pic the Wagon was wearing BFG 31's with an adjusted radius of let's say 14.5" that gives me like 8" of lift. Wow!

So after the little one sick and then passing it off to dad I finally get back into the shop and got the front springs back in. I hate welding upside down but I'm happy with the way it came out. Like Kavik I want to keep the lift as low as possable, lower the bump stops and cut the fenders if needed. As it sits now the front is almost 4" lower than the back so I'm going to mix and match some shackle lengths to make it up.

Right on! You may want to experiment w/ moving the front axle to the forward hole in the spring perch.
I deliberately moved my front axle forward about an inch when I relocated the hangers. I figured I could use all the room I could get at the rear of the fender well.
Keep it up, you will be really stoked when it's a roller.

So it was a busy week but not for this project. Waiting for parts sucks. In any case I puttered around today and fabbed up the beginings of my twin stick shifter. After I cut half the head off the 6"x5/8 bolt and polished it with emry cloth I welded it to the bracket.

I found a piece of galvanized water pipe that with a little file work fit nicely on the bolt. I ground off the galvanizing and when I get the t-case back together I'll finish it up.
Disclaimer: If you plan to weld any material with galvanizing on it, be sure to grind it off or soak it off with muratic acid. The gasses set off by welding can make you real sick.
