for those that have done it, what is a ballpark figure a good paint shop to respray a 40. Sand beige, no rust repair. ohio area. Just trying to get an idea for possible purchase. Thank you.

I spent $2100. for some metal repair and single stage paint to have my tub sprayed on vehicle. You are probably looking at $5K to have it done?? Maybe others will give us some more input

I spent under $500 for materials (single stage paint,prep/masking material, etc) and sprayed it myself. Not show quality but not Earl Scheib special either :bounce:
A good shop, depending on paint quality and amount of prep required could be 4-5k to ?,??? Depending on what you want for an end result.

Maaco did mine. 2 colors (red body, white top/bezel) in their 2nd best paint. $1100 or so if I remember correctly. 5x5 paint job, looked good from 5 ft away or at over 5 mph. Later, I had a very good shop do just the hood after I left it unclipped and went ripping down the freeway. :bang: Blasted, prepped, and painted in single stage was $900.

Keep in mind the majority of the cost is labor (highly inflated) .Key is finding the right shop that is providing the labor along with quality-not just cost.
I have a friend that owns a shop. All of my materials were purchased at his cost.
I taught myself to paint with his guidance (free).........my kind of price :)

@71FFJ40 now that is what I call a good friend. I want to learn paint and welding, usefull skills for these old rigs of ours!

I can't imagine 500 bucks can buy you any kind of quality paint from what I remember.I seem to remember spending in the $ 1000 range for the base coat clear coat ppg paint in freeborn red and alot more with all the prep products and primer.

I've got probably 2500 in mine and ~100ish hours (me doing all the work...im slow). 700ish in paint then the rest in shop supplies, Hobbyair, explosion proof fan, decent HVlp guns.

Run on sentence -->:steer: Did you get your paint and supplies from a friend who owns a shop and has a PPG color match paint system in said shop and can mix up any color you can imagine and allows the use of his incredibly expensive spray guns, masking materials and state of the art spray booth along with a set of very capable Ecuadorean hands to help sand your truck and then coaches you along and shows you proper painting techniques and allows you to practice painting on an old box truck prior to painting your truck?
I did.Thats how I got real good single stage and a decent paint job for $475.00 to be exact. It pays to know the right people :zilla: and I completely rebuilt and gave him a 15 hp screw compressor.......that helped :steer:

Thanks for all, replays, any one on here from NE Ohio can recommend a shop? Thx

Unless you just can't do it yourself, which we understand, as it is a time consuming process, It will be beaucoup bucks to get a decent paint job. Yes the price in primarily in the labor, not the paint, which if done right is quite extensive. I did my own in my two car garage, and I still don't believe the effort I put into it. But now that it is over, and if I had to do it over again......I would do it in a NY minute. The money I saved way more than paid for the new Kobalt 60 gallon compressor and all the plumbing, pipe, filters and guns. But there you go we don't all have the time to do this.

Dam!!!! That all over the map on prices.

Im lucky to have a painter in my close family. He said he would do mine for beer plus materials. If we did it in my garage. haha

Hell its a 40 i dont want show quality

I'm in Akron and can give you the name of one not to use

:rofl::rofl:

At least it work out better no going with the first shop!

The cost of painting is in the preparation and supplies. The prep works varies greatly. Are you spraying the entire rig inside and out? Same color? Are you removing parts, taping around stuff, or just overspraying everything? What are you going to do in the engine bay? Door jams? Hardtop? What if the rear sill is rusty and patched together with bondo? You get what you pay for.

I paid about 8K for my paint job NOT including sandblasting, some welding work, taking apart or putting back together. It is a 100% respray of each and every part. I probably have at least 10K in paint and body work and I took it apart and put it back together. The paint itself is not cheap. But, you can get cheap paint.

Bottom line, the reason you are getting costs all over the map is because you aren't comparing apples to apples. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

I called Cruiser Solutions a few years ago and they quoted me $20K for one of their body off paint jobs.

I don't see rubber, weatherstrip mentioned? Depending on the expected result, it's best to remove some/most/all of the rubber, in most cases at least some, wont be worth reinstalling. Just the rubber bill can be significant.

Exactly. I think I was in well over $2k on rubber alone. It sucks, but there's no way around it.
