You may call me crazy or think this down right blasphemous to put a non Toyota diesel in a fj40 but I'm going going to drop a Mercedes om606 turbo diesel in my 40. To my knowledge this has never been completed in a 40 before. All my work on my 40 up to this point can be seen here My fj40 thread.
I got a smoking deal on a 99 Mercedes e300 today. The car was mechanical sound I I drove her 30ish miles home with no issues and cold ac. They ultimate goal for the cruiser is to have restored looking diesel fj40 with some tasteful updates. The plan as of now is front disk brakes, h42, 3 speed case, and 33x10.5 rubber.

Is the injection pump on that motor mechanically controlled or is it electronic? Also, what tranny and adapter are you looking at?

It's currently electronic but I will be swapping it over to an earlier mechanical pump. I've contacted 4x4labs about an adapter to my h42 but haven't heard back from them yet.

I am doing an om617 swap into a 3rd gen pickup right now . I ordered a set of arms from Luke about two months ago (still haven't received them) I believe he is busy moving his shop so don't expect a response anytime soon . I came up with a bit of a different idea when it comes to the steering and engine placement because of the weird oil pan position . Pm me if you'd like the details . I think it would work well in an fj40 as well.

I believe I found a solution to the front sump oil pan or at least for the 606. The new om648 I believe has a rear sump oil pan and and pump and can be interchanged fairly easily

Well i found a deal on a 74 and 75 that was too good to pass up so I have a total of four fj40s. Will get some picks up soon.

It's a typical old style v8 conversion. Has a 350 with a slung rod. One of the POs convert the hood and fenders to a tilt hood which I thought was pretty neat. Turns out it has a big rear aux tank and a pto but it isn't hooked to anything

Not really sure what's going on with this wooden plug where the drive shaft is supposed to be

Heh! I could say: "Now I've seen everything" but I know it'd turn out not to be true.

It's a pretty unique old rig. The guy I got it from gave a nice little bag of recipts from California and Oregon dating from about 1988-1996. How it got to Alabama I have no idea.

A 2wd fj40 is definitely unique!

Picked up the second half the deal Monday and snagged some pics tonight
-edit pictures are taking to long to upload tonight will finish them tommorow

Over all it's a super solid truck. It's to have an older resto on it but has been sitting. There is basically only two spots of rust on it. One on the barn door that is pretty bad and one pencil sized hole in the rear corner.

Interesting thread!..... Could you please post a pic of the other side of the SBC exhaust headers?.... Any idea who made them or what brand?
Thanks.

Downey used to sell fenderwell headers.
