FJ40 Cross-Country Expedition: Will YOU join us???

So, based on input the last couple of messages I've put together a planning aid. All circles in the map below are 200-mile radii. If that's too much, or not enough, I can change accordingly.

@Honger - Red
@myquestoyota - Light Green
@mesa man - Turquoise
@OlYellr - Blue
Solid Axle Summit - Purple

As I see it now if I can get it to mesa man, he can get it to SAS, who can then pass it off to OlYellr. However, that doesn't get it up to the PNW. @Adarcy and/or @sdnative, are you guys still up for a handoff in west-AZ/east-CA? It would be cool to get it up the west coast and then down to SAS... there's time, we just need participants.

We are definitely looking for a shake down run in our 40 and always looking for adventures!
Let us know what direction you want to go in and we will be at SAS for sure and we are taking our 40 this year.
😊

I’m sure someone at SAS could drive it to the west coast, then send it north! We can coordinate this and have a blast executing it!🍻 @Honger when do you have a few free days in your schedule? I would like to meet somewhere cool to explore and hike take photos, hike some more! Hows the last week of April like for you?

On the way through New Mexico, between the Four Corners and Albuquerque, stop by my neck of the woods. Valles Caldera National Preserve (definitely worth seeing) and Bandelier National Monument (cliff dwellings and great backcountry scenery). From Cuba, NM on US 550 head east on NM 126 to La Cueva, then left on NM 4 towards Los Alamos. You'll go right through the Valles Caldera and Bandelier. Take NM 4 past Bandelier to NM 502 east of Los Alamos, then east on NM 502 to US 84/285, then south to Santa Fe and points beyond.

It might be worth holding off a trip across the mountains down here for a few days, here's what the FJ60 looked like this morning when I woke up:

Would love to see the briefcase on the four corners

You bet - I will be sure to try and steer the group that way. As might be evident by those waypoints above, our exact itinerary is flexible and will blow the way of least resistance.
How's the trip going so far? I hope you're enjoying the sights along the way.

FYI... baton will be getting passed on to @Mesa Woman and @mesa man in less than two weeks... April 26/27. We are meeting up in the Escudilla Wilderness for a brief camp, some hiking, and of course a handoff of the briefcase/baton.

Anyone else interested in getting in on the baton passing, post up your location and approximate radius and I'll update the planning aid!

Mesa Man and I are heading to Pie Town, NM today to meet @Honger in his 40 with his 9yo daughter!
Briefcase hand-off after PIE!! 😃
Wish we could put a pie in the case for the next person… hahaha… we’ll find a sticker!!

The case is moving along to more adventures! We’ll make sure it gets to many hands at Solid Axle Summit, looks like a lot of 40s are signed up this year!

Happy Trails!

We got it! Quite the adventure but so worth the time! Pie was had as well as good conversation and great company!

Thanks, @Honger, for the stories, food and memories and may your daughter hold tight to her’s! She is a joy and I loved her smiles! It was good to see her happiness and excitement on the adventure with her Daddy and his 40!
We got some snow at camp and she enjoyed every bit of the coldness and the little snow we got!

Adventure and more pictures posted on:

Here’s the pie and briefcase I was after, and there’s the great company I spoke of!

Here we all are after some yummy pie ready to hit the road heading in opposite directions. But we had a strange feeling that something had happened out there in the world outside of Pie Town as there were 100s of semis and other traffic driving by… but only heading West on highway 60. 🧐
I40 was shut down due to a train derailment on Friday morning!! Strange cause there was very little traffic as we headed to Pie Town from Albuquerque on Friday taking i40 west to our exit south on highway 117. I’d say we made perfect timing!

Love this. Headed to the travelogue thread now.

I handed the 5th or 6th iteration of the baton off to @KennyBob at Lonestar LandCruiser Roundup a week ago. It is currently in his possession waiting the next hand off in the San Antonio/ Austin Texas area.
Let's keep this going with the intent for folks to get out and drive their 40s.
The original briefcase should be loaded with cool items and fun stories.
I’ve still got the briefcase. It made the journey back to our old house in Kyle, TX after roundup. It’s now with the 40 at our new house in Marble Falls, TX. (Had a big move to get through.)

My thinking was it would be a good excuse to take the 40 to meet and hand off the briefcase at Hidden Falls Adventure Park (now right down the road from me).

Obligatory pics of me and @POTATO LAUNCHER at Roundup doing the handoff.
