After taking forever to get my act together and stacking parts it's time to start the engine swap on my truck. A 4.8l Chevy motor is getting swapped in. I've got two months to get it finished.

When mocking up the headers and engine mounts I was able to get the mounts to clear by moving them forward slightly. Any insight on whether this is will cause any issues? The mount is forward maybe 2", the diameter of a header tube.

Although I have zero experience swapping different engines, I'd think the limiting dimension would be how much room you've got up front to fit the waterpump fan
and radiator. Add those things into the mounting equation so there's enough space (but not too much space) up front so the fully assembled engine will fit in there nicely

2 months is super doable.
Go with Ford Contour electric fans and take that variable completely out of the mounting equation. They have doing a great job cooling my 5.3 swap through a very hot Florida summer.

Also, I have similar headers, I will most likely be redoing mine with OEM manifolds. I keep burning the same spark plug wire every few weeks or so. Just something to look out for, make sure they clear the wires before building your whole exhaust.

What are your plans for ECU? You really can't beat the new Holley Terminator for the money. You get the harness, command module, and tuning software all for $1k. I would be choosing this over the stock computer if I were doing it again for sure. I may still swap over to it one day.

How much hp does the 4.8 put out? Why not use a 5.3?

I had to look that up. That’s a great deal.

255-285 hp depending on what model and 295 teq stock.

It’s still 2x the power of a 2F on it’s best day and easily 60hp more with a tiny cam/headers/electric fan and a tune.

I'll check the spark plug wire issue. Any luck with insulating them with heat sleeves?

For cooling, I bought a dual fan/ shroud combo from Darale. It will bolt up to the stock radiator

I've already started to work the factory harness. If the 75 dollar fix ends up failing I'll look into another harness.

Long story short. It was supposed to be a 5.3 but ended up being a 4.8. There's not enough of a power difference to dicker over. I have no plan to soup up the motor. Just looking to get reliability and serviceability out of the swap.

Those Derale fans will work great.
No, I’ve had no luck with insulating sleeves. Or several insulating sleeves on top of each other even.

The reason I’d suggest the Holley is more so you don’t have to deal with the stock computer. The problem is you’re at the mercy of someone else to flash it correctly unless you have HP Tuners.

Gotcha. I planned to have the guy at LT1swaps.com do the flash. He comes well recommended.

I used hooker manifolds from summit on my last swap mocked it all up with rear dump camaro manifolds then switched to the hooker manifolds they still dump at the rear but don't kick out towards the frame witch is great for driver side clearance.

Also might want to check and see if your ac compressor will fit with you moving the motor mounts forward
